That is a cool-looking app. One thing I wish it had was not only the POI, but an adjusted POA (showing you where to compensate). I had a look at the manual and thought of some nice improvements I could make to Ballistica. But am just too busy with other products to even think about it. Ballistics apps are definitely niche apps.

That is a really nice app, but lest we forget...
This and similar apps for Android work on a device which via satellite, can and will pinpoint your exact location at all times.

I don't think any one depends on these type apps as a sole solution.  I do not consider them "toys" either, they can do things and remember things that my brain cannot.  Most (at least I do), see them as training devices or aids, they are convienient to have and sometimes fun to play with in the field.  They are not mandatory and the success of your hunt/shoot does not depend on them.  They are simply an optional piece of kit.  If you do not want it, don't buy it.

I guess you could, "what if" anything.  IE:  What if you forget to take your rifle?  Just sayin...

Chris, agreed on all points. Just making a point that it's important to know how to do "math" without calculators. I think we all become so used to GPS we don't know how to navigate our town without em. Yes, they can be great training tools, and useful. But as you said, they should never be the "sole solution."

You could always pull the SIM card while you're shooting. And go into Airplane Mode.
