Things I want, low light capable, side focus, target turrets "MOA", 3x on low side and 15 on high side give or take!, not a huge scope, and last around $1500 or less.   I have a 5.5x22 nightforce on my match rifle but dont consider it a hunting scope due to dull optics and oversized. Have to drive about 100 mi. To really look at anything in person, otherwise just relying on internet. Been on some hunting forums looking but this forum seems way better and more info here. Thanks

Welcome to Optics Talk.

Respectfully, why the instance on MOA clicks?
If at first you don't secede...try..try again.

Welcome to the OT!

I have a Premier hunting scope that I really like.Glass is about as good as it gets,3-15 x50 with either 1/3 moa or .1mrad,also has side focus all for $1650.I have the Illum version which set me back an extra $300 but well worth the extra coin.

You know how it is ---you either set out the options you want and forget price--- or you set price and check as many options that you want off as you can get.
I really think that the Swarovski is what you want but its way over the price mentioned.
The photo of the trijicon makes it look huge but it comes with a free sun shade -- you dont have to have that on.

Viper PST 6-24 MOA/MOA sfp. Absolutely love it. Great glass, it tracks perfectly. I've taken second place with my hunting setup at a 1000 yrd shoot. It's affordable as well. Great warranty in case you drop it. Also I know a lot of hunters love the huskemaw scopes for hunting. Just buy one of those and put 500-750 dollars towards a new toy :)

The SS  5-20x50 outclasses anything in it's price range including my Leupold Mark 4 scopes and the glass is far better than Nightforce scopes from a couple years ago the newest Nightforce like the ATACAR is pretty close.  You really have to pay a hell of a lot more money to step up in quality from the 5-20x50  SS.    I have the illuminated model but If I was to do it over I would probably pass on the illumination and spend more on quality rings.  I would probably use La Rue quick detach rings and pack the high quality scope in then attach or take in two optics in La Rue QD rings .  Consider adding a level and consider the Eberlestock packs that have a place for the rifle.

Good idea on the QR rings and packing in high country. Gotta make a choice on the scope this wk and get it ordered.   Really prefer 3 or 3.5 on the low end.   Going to use this on a smokeless MZ also.

One tip with a musket put a piece of military type duct tape on the bottom of the scope to protect where you get ignition flash which can burn the bottom of the scope.  On a musket I would probably use the 3-9x42 mainly because its way smaller than the 5-20x50 and with a musket you will probably be limiting to around 300 yds unless you spend a lot of time on the range getting it dialed in so that you know the trajectory.  We have shoot deer out to almost 400 yds with a TC Encore Musket but we practice out to those distances and it requires a lot of range time to know how much correction to dial in with a musket a trajectory is almost like a 45-70.  I really like the 250gr Barnes sabot with the blue tip.

I would have no problem going with one off samplelist and saving some money on it.
