I received some reply's on which Scope to go with on a new Remington 5R target/varmint .223 for around $1000 and I must say I am more and more impressed every time I shoot the gun. The SIII 6x24x50 with MOA 2 is awesome in its optics and its tracking/adjustments. Thanks for the recommendation.

Another new scope I have used recently on my 7 ultra is a Swarovski Z3 4x12x50, optics are great but I must say I am underwhelmed with its accuracy of adjustments so far. The 1/4 moa adjustments do not move the bullet as they should at 100 and 200 yards. Once I finish sighting it in dead on at 200 yards and checking the windage at 400 or 500 yards I will see how accurate the BRH hold over reticle is. I feel I may have made a mistake replacing the Zeiss Conquest 4.4x14x44 Z plex that was on this gun previously, it was replaced because I wanted a hold over reticle on this accurate (1/2 MOA) 7 ultra Remington sendero. The BRH of all the hold over reticles available lined up best with my load out of the gun.

I have had great luck with a Conquest with Z800 on another rifle.

I have never had any issue with the adjustments on any of my Swarovski's. What issues are you experiencing with the adjustments? How did you go about tightening the rings?

My rifle equipped with the new Z3 won't shoot better than 1.5 MOA at 100 or 200 yards, the gun is a 1/2 moa rifle.

I have wasted ammo and time on the Z3, adjustments are crap, I shoot a group and find that the group is centered but 1 inch high at 200 yards, make the adjustment, the bullet impact does move down 1 inch but now the group center is 2 inches left at 200 yards, same thing happens when I adjust the windage, the bullet impact changes where I put it but throws the elevation off again.

Scope is mounted properly, rifle gets no more than 20 shots through it before it is cleaned (including copper) fouled with 3 shots and try groups again. I am trying to sight it in dead center at 200 yards so I can use the BRH reticle at other ranges. Gun is a Sendero with proven ammo, recoil lug of the HS stock has been glass bedded, yes action screws are tight, rings and bases are tight and rings were lapped-its not the gun.

Shooting has been off a rock solid concrete shooting bench with quality sandbags/rest.

This has happened the last two range trips.

Finally got the rifle printing about 1" high at 200 yards and the three shot group is centered but about 2.5 MOA. If its this bad at 200 I cant imagine what its going to be like at 400/500 yards.

The scope is going back to Swarovski, this is unacceptable for a $1000 class scope IMO.

So you were getting roughly 1" groups at 200yds and now you are getting roughly 5" groups at 200yds? What scope were you using before?

What rings are you using and what did you torque them to?

Sounds like you are confident it is a scope issue

Sorry, no the rifle is shooting 1.5 MOA at 200 yards (three inch groups).
Rings are Leupold duel dovetail steel rings and bases, I believe I set the ring screws at 22 inch/lbs.

What would the ring screw torque have to do with the inconsistent adjustments/bad groups? The problem would lie with the scopes errector system would it not?

Previous scope on the rifle was a Zeiss Conquest 4.4x14x44.

And no issues with previous scope? Do you still have it?  I'd mount it and try just to confirm

Lots of folks think that just because an optic has Swarovski on it, it has got the be the best thing since sliced bread.  They do make great stuff but not every time.  The only scope I've ever had fail on a hunt was a SwaroA (Z3) by failing to hold POI.

No, the previous scope was sold.
This rifle has always been very easy to shoot well and consistent with the previous scope.

Very well could be a scope issue,  Swaro has an online sytem now to handle all the return request.  You can follow status and they will update you regularly.

Good luck with the repair.

Anything mechanical can fail, everyone puts out lemons too.  Just a matter of how they handle it when they have to fix it.

I am going to try reducing the torque on the ring screws to 15 inch pounds and see if this helps/make sure it is not a ring torque issue. As far as the grouping I verified that my action screws are at 60 inch pounds torque-where they have always been with the previous scope.

The problem that I have found with the adjustments on the Swarovski Z3 is that their instruction book says 1/4 inch per click n the scope reticles actually move 7mm (about .28 inches) not 1/4 as stipulated.

Update

Sent the Z3 back to Swarovski, they did find problems with it, repaired it and it is due to arrive in a couple of days. Very fast/great customer service!

I guess it just goes to show that even they put out the occasional lemon.

I see it's been about 6 months but how did the Z3 before once you got it back? I'm considering putting the z3 41 450 on my new mark v. I have a Zeus hd5 5x25x50 on my browning 30/06 & a leupold v 3 3.5x10x50 on a browning 264 win mag. Both scopes are extremely clear but the hd5 has the edge. Originally was considering just getting a 3x12x56 conquest.
