Those fish scratch me right where I itch. I can't think of any fish that swims in a lake that I like catching more than smallies.
My friend took this pic with his iphone so it's crappy, but you get the idea... Some more... This one came from a PA lake several years ago.. Edited by Roy Finn - May/30/2013 at 21:24 |

I love fishing for bronze backs. I used to fish the Michigan rivers and reservoirs (AuSable) for the smallmouths. I never did make it to the south shores of the UP for the spawning season though.

Looks like you had lots of fun !!! I just came back from a visit with my Dad last week. We spent a long (4 day )weekend at his camp up on Kentucky Lake. We caught between 150-200 bass. It's hard to keep count when it's so many, but with the 15 in minimum, we only had between 25-30 legal keepers. All were largemouth except for one Ky spot. No smallmouths this time, we didn't do much ledge or deep water fishing, electing instead to stick to the rising grass in the shallows.
I love bass fishing, especially in any Tn river reservoir.

Mine's not a Lake St Clair bronze-back, it's a Kali river smallie from up at deer camp.

There was a Bassmasters Elite tournament on the St. Lawrence two weekends ago and the winner had 88 #'s of Smallies for a four day tournament. Limit is 5 per day. He ran from Waddington, NY all the way downriver to Henderson Harbor on Lake Ontario all four days which is a 220 mile round trip each day. He was also docked 2#'s for inadvertantly putting a sixth fish in his livewell. A penalty which he called on himself. I think his biggest was 5/13 lbs. That's quite an average for 20 Smallies.

Went out today to break the summer time boredom and caught a couple which considering how doggish it is this time of year passed some time and had a little fun.

I caught the first fish last from the pond last week too. No fish were stocked in the pond so I am baffled where it came from. It might make small mouth bait. |
