Welcome to Optics Talk! Howdy

I honestly cannot comment on Celestron.

However, for long-range observation, the 20-60x80 Viper HD spotting scope is incredible. It has very impressive resolution, and the lens are fully multicoated to maximize light transmission.

I would contact Vortex and see if there is a dealer in Australia and go check one out in person.

I would look for a Nikon82ED Fieldscope.  It's fantastic, on par with my neighbor's old style Zeiss 85 T FL, but the Nikon has  75x on the top end, which is useable under certain conditions.  The only drawback is that the zoom has a relatively narrow FOV and marginal eye relief.  If you don't wear glasses it's probably not a big deal.

It just seems like those 80mm scopes would be too big for hunting. I am leaning toward the 65mm size. I want to maxe sure it fits into my x2 Eberlestock pack with tripod.

Love my Nikon ED50 and it is my go to spotting scope for the range as well. My Pentax 80ED rarely comes out anymore.
