recently adjusted the hinge on my ziess vicroty binoculars. the little dust cap was held in place with some kind of rubber cement. what is that stuff? where can i get some? is there something similar around the house i can use?

Try Home Depot, or do a Google Search, for Barge Rubber Cement.

I prefer Porro prism binoculars especially those made in Japan. (i.e. Minox BD 10x44 BP) 8>)
