Just because you own an ARD doesn't mean you need to have it on the scope all the time you can use a lens shade with no light loss and only use the ARD when your glass might reflect and give away your position to someone who might shoot at you - an unlikely event for anyone but a military sniper (unless you live in Virginia or Kentucky http://www.randlemanland.com/shine.html). |

I put a ARD and a sunshade on my SS 10x and actually forgot about the ARD.
I didn't realize that you could lose so much LT though, as JJ stated.
All my (limited) shooting with my SS has been in good lighting, so far.
Good thread, LGAK!!

The ARD is a spin off of honeycomb grids used in photograpy to limit the direction of light. I've even seen home made versions made out of McDonnalds straws. Light works like bouncing a ball off the side of a pool table - or technically speaking - The angle of incidence is equal to the angle of reflection. This is why if you stand someone up against a window and take a flash photo of them straight toward the window you have lots of glare looking back but if you shoot the same flash at an angle to the glass you see no reflection. With the curved lens on the front of the scope light striking the glass reflects off the front lens - angle of incidence equal to the angle of reflection, but the curved lens means that some portion of that curve is more likely to be the correct angle to reflect the sun or other light source toward the enemy. If the sun is behind you there is not this same reflection problem from the front lens. Understanding how light works one could place a small mirror or piece of glass at an angle that would reflect a certain direction setting it up in the morning knowing that it would reflect in the afternoon and then take a sniper position that would be effective when the enemy came to investigate the reflection.

Get yours while supplies last. Mike McDonald’s patented panty hose collection. These panty hose will be super thin to not affect light transmission yet still capable of maintaining the effectiveness of an ARD. Custom engineered from Mike’s continuous wear.

Lord knows I did not need that visual.
Anyhow, in case of Brady's sudden demise, I need to make sure I have another person from SWFA to bug.

Michael,
Granbury is more than a 1000 yds from Red Oak.

PS: Brady is shooting in the upcoming 3 Gun Tactical Match at Tac-Pro. Are you going to be a range officer at the match? Edited by Chris |

Michael,
We just bought some steel targets from Kurt at http://lvsteeltargets.com. All 5/8" thick AR500 plate. I know most bullets just splatter on steel, especially good steel. Kurt said not to shoot them closer than 100 yards with anything moving over 3,000 fps.
I noticed the holes in the steel target you shot that amazing group on. Do you know what caliber did that and at what range? Do you know what kind of steel the target is?
I think Brady popped that same target with a Barrett shooting incindies and it did not poke holes in the steel.
I don't want to mess up our new targets. |

Has Brady figured out that humor goes both ways yet? ROFLMAO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I watched a guy wi h a 7STW using soft point ammunition poke holes in that target from 500 yards. No one thought that would happen and he thought he was missing the target. A 338 or a 50 with non AP rounds won't touch it, although the 338 did bend one pretty bad. Yeah, I'll probably work the match. I enjoy helping out so others can shoot. BTW, what kind of a wussy shoots from a bench?? Edited by Mike McDonald |

Note to self: stay close to Pacific ocean until Brady and Mike figure this out.
Another note to self: stay on good terms with whoever survives.
Question to self: Brady has my address on file. Should I move and have all further correspondence and packages shipped to a mail box eight zipcodes away?
More seriously now, I've gotta to move out of Commiefornia. You guys have access to way too many toys. I am jelous.
