They take a bit of getting used to but they are fine pistols probably comes on target lower than you are used to if I had to guess. Shooting it enough to get used to it does make a difference so if you wind up with it just put in some more trigger time or add a crimson trace and play with that to get used to the grip angle. As far as .45acp goes these are about the pick of the litter, no safety double action first round with decock lever, so very safe carry gun. The H&K guns also are a winner in .45acp but have a safety so an option that I tend not to like. Glock 21Gen 4 has lots more rounds but feels like a 2x4 still a solid choice. If it was me Id put on the Crimson Trace and keep it till I got used to it and practice coming on target with the lazer. The only .45 I have had that I liked better than the Sig P220 was an H&K P9s (no longer made). I did come very close to buying the new H&K it like the P9s has a polygon bore which is very accurate.

Where is "local"?
I might have an interest in talking, have a few 1911s we could discuss. Do you need a threaded 1911?

Local is Texas. that's near by.
Seriously, Fort Worth area but a decent deal and a nice weekend = nice trade and a motorcycle ride. Threaded barrel is not a requirement, but I'm not looking for compacts.
