Im looking for a scope to shoot out well past 1K, i have 2 SS's (10x & 20X) but i want more than 20x magnification. does anyone have experience with this scope? Also can anyone tell definitively how much elevation is has. the Vortex Website says that is has 65 MOA but every other website that i have found it on says that is has 75 MOA. Lastly is there another scope in that price range less than $1000 that i should take a look at?

I would be looking more for better glass than more magnification. I know a number of people here use the SS HD10x at 1000yds. Plus high magnification just increases problems such as mirage. Since you can adjust it for conditions. Also 1000yds with a 10x is similar to 100yds with no magnification.

And if you must have 20x the 5-20 SS that Urimaginaryfrnd suggested is a great choice. But it is over your budget. Also the image at 20x with the 5-20 SS will be much better than the image with the 20x fixed SS.

Better glass will serve you much better than more magnification.

My humble suggestion would be to take a look at the sightron. I think it will meet your needs and optically it is impressive.
Sightron SIII are very hard to beet for the money they perform as a 1250-1999 scope does...

338, is it your opinion that the glass in the Sightron SIII is better than the glass in the Vortex Viper HS?
Life's concerns should be about the 120lb pack your trying to get to the top of the mountain, and not the rock in your boot.

+1 on the better glass. Personally, I had better results with a scope like the Premier LT, which is "only" 3-15 than I did shooting at 20X with the SS 5-20, which is the only scope I've ever had over 15. I more often shot the SS 5-20 at 15-16X when going out to 1000-1250 yards. It was just easier to get behind then and mirage was less of a problem. I'd still consider it, esp. the non-illum @ $1299 vs. shelling out a ton of coin for the really high end stuff. The glass is almost as good.
Reaction time is a factor...

Its a fact. J/k but my choice of the Sightron is not just brand preference.  The high magnification stays clearer to my eyes and has better resolution and better contrast.  I am able to distinguish depth better and it is seemingly brighter and does not have issues with low light.  At 24x the do not compare you get a much more intense and sharper image.

Yes but I give your opinion a lot of weight (almost as much as ILya's), since you spent a lot of time behind glass professionally.

Perhaps you should ask him how he ended up giving Sightron a chance...

Oh, and for the record, while the PST is a more fully featured scope, the S3 does have better optics.

Also, Sightron has just added a FFP version of S3 6-24x50 to their line-up.
