In a few days, you'll get to see the price. DO NOT be drinking something when you take a look. It is an interesting concept, similar in many ways to what others have done (imagine a Kestrel weather station on a Burris Eliminator.) What I am uncertain of is the trigger mechanism. You pull the trigger and the gun does not go bang UNTIL the locked on target is in the reticle center. Here's the part I dislike the most: the rifle and optic are battery-operated. When the battery dies, the rifle becomes a stick or a hammer or a boat oar. Nice, huh? It is an interesting product, and will be a step in the evolution of modern small arms. I won't be buying one, or wanting one, but I have more interest in this than in a Huskemaw setup - and both are making about the same claims.

Regardless of what anyone thinks of it, this technology is in use by our military RIGHT NOW. I can zero a weapon at a very short distance and bring extremely accurate fire at much greater ranges than implied in that video. Tracking Point has taken it to "the next level" in personal weapons. Right now, I have a backpack carried solar panel that I can charge the batteries for a device like this while charging my cell phone, a radio, and an iPod. Are there limitations, sure. There are limitations with a conventional rifle that exceed the limitations of a device like this. Is it fully perfected... NO, but they will get there. Things like this are changing... and have changed... the way we conduct warfare. It's an evolution that will happen, no matter what. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/CROWS#CROWS_specification_highlights
This technology is reminiscent of an episode from the original Star Trek series where wars are fought by computer simulation and loss of life is remote, detached and meaningless. I love technology, but sometimes in the hands of "man" it is very unsatisfying... we have a lot of growing to do to be ready for this. However, it IS here...

I saw this thing at SHOT yesterday.
They are trying to market it to incompetent shooters as an easy tool to get hits at 1000 yards. Interestingly, they kinda wave off the effects of wind as if those don't matter. In principle, it is a badly executed version of what the military uses except made with components available for civilians. I stood there for a bit and listened to their pitch. I really did not like their attitude. ILya

Hey ILya!!!!
I played around with the Mosin 91/30. Polished the sear and removed a small burr from the bolt where the sear engages it. Someone had already shimmed teh sear so I left it that way just cleaned it. Cleaned a ring of hard nasty crud from the bolt face. The trigger is much better now and the bolt goes into battery much smoother then it had been.
Took her to the range and tried 182gr match ammo. Had to resight it in since it was sited for 147G milsurp. 50yds rendered 0.3Dia 5 shot group using the Viper 2-7X32. Went to 100yds and she was printing about 1.25MOA with my eyes and 7X. Bet she would do better If I had more maginification. That is a heck of a lot better than teh 3MOA I was getting before. Oh I also added a rubber buttpad so my shoulder woun't get mad at me. She now lots of fun to shoot.
Next is to get that aftermarket spring kit to stop that rattling trigger. I'm hooked!

Hey, that crud was collectible. It was there since 1944 Mosins can be addictive. They are odd rifles, but with even a little TLC, many of them shoot quite well. ILya |
