Looking to put a scope on a mini 14 i just purchased. The gun will be used for plinking anything and everything, carry along with me on my trap line and maybe some coyote hunting. I'm not looking to do long range with it, lets say 200 yds or less. Just want to get some ideas on scopes. I'm not a fan of ballistic plex reticles, would like a standard plex or #4. With the rings that came with the gun i believe the largest objective i can put on is a 40mm. I would like my top end magnification to be between 9 and 14. Id say my budget is around $400. Thanks for the help.

Wish I had kept my mini14. I kick myself daily for trading that rifle. If it were mine I would look at something like this.
http://swfa.com/Bushnell-2-7x32-Elite-Rifle-Scope-P48261.aspx The Zeiss is also a great deal on a great scope. You may also want to check out the Sightron close outs. The SII Big Sky series are excellent optics. http://swfa.com/Sightron-Closeouts-C4847.aspx |

You will want to stay with a one inch tube because the rings that come with it are 1 inch.
I understand you dont like the balistic plex but its less money right now usually its way more.

Zeiss is very nice but a Weaver 3.5-10X40 GrandSlam is shorter, lighter and close to $200 lessBut, 10 years from now you would probably be happier with the Zeiss.
