First post here for me. .
I have been an avid shooter/hunter/reloader for approximately 20 years, but have recently taken the plunge on long range/tactical shooting. I have recently purchased a Remington 700 PSS .308 and am about to pull the trigger on a SS 10X. I have read the rave reviews on the Badger Ordnance mounts, but cringe at the price. Could any of you name some very good quality tactical mounts that are not going to set me back so much $$$$$?
Thanks in advance |

Brother: My advise is to go with Standard Badger rings with the Remington and a 10x SS. I have a 20 MOA Badger rail with mine too. I recommend that as well.
With all the elevation that the SS provides, the 20 MOA rail is really not needed to get out to 1000 yards, but I think it's good to have in case you decide to change scopes at some point. I meant your next scope may not have as much "up" as the SS, but you still get 20 MOA more with the rail. You change the scope but keep the rail/rings. Feel me?
Considering I "stole" the Super Sniper for $299, I felt good about putting my savings toward Badger gear.
They are high, but worth it IMHO. There are other rings out there, but none better.
Oh.........and welcome to The OT!!

Thanks bro! By the way, should I go with the 10X SS or 16X? Also, if the 10X, is it worth the extra $100 for the side focus featrure? Do I need it? |

The 10x provides a much better field of view than the 16x, so I think the 10x would serve you better. As far as side focus, I'm a lefty and didn't want to take my finger off the trigger to adjust parallax, so I went with the standard rear focus model. Again, the rear focus model would be MY choice.
Best wishes..... |

The one that nobody mentioned, Warne Tactical base. These are among the best offered by anybody. I have a number of "Tactical or Sniper" rifles and have 20-MOA on them under Zeiss Tactical, Nikon Tactical, Leupold MK4 and SS16X42 scopes. For the money, the Super Sniper is the best Tactical scope you can buy (for the money). I liked my SS16X42 so well, it's in the Warne 2006 catalog in 2 places.

Do you feel like the original poster needs a 20 MOA base with the setup you mentioned? Or rather, what are your thoughts on the virtue of elevated bases?
Thanks in advance. Edited by cheaptrick |

If you plan on shooting at 500 plus yards, you can't go wrong. I've got 3 Savages and an FN Herstal SPR all set up with 20-MOA bases, all for the 500+ possibilities. On the norm, most of us are going to do our shooting at less distance. I take part in some long range competition shooting through Warne Mfg., so I have the need for the cant. Otherwise, I would stick with the flat base.

By the way fellas, would you go with one piece picatinny or two? Seems like the one piece would be stronger.

The only way to go in my book is a one piece rail.
