I am looking to buy a new scope for a .257 Weatherby Magnum.  I will be hunting Mule Deer, Blacktails and Antelope with this rifle.  I am looking at the Leupold 4.5-14 x 50 VXIII, Boone & Crocket, 30mm Scope w/side focus and the Burris Black Diamond 4-16 x 50, Ballistic Plex, 30mm scope w/side focus.  Looking for some input, I have many Leupold Scopes and love them, but hear a lot of good things about Burris and am wondering if they are better yet???? HELP!

I'm a Leupophile too, not that there isn't better out there, just old habits die hard and they're very good scopes.

I think you're on the right path as far as the scope goes....especially with the caliber you're using. The clean lines and light weight of the Leupold will look great atop any Weatherby rifle. I've got a Weatherby SBGM .300 Win Mag topped with a 3-10x40mm VX-III....been a good set-up for me.

I've only had one Burris Black Diamond, but it didn't stay around long.  I much prefer the VX III's.  You can't go wrong with the Leupold.

I prefer the Leupold  but Burris  has worked hard to create some good scopes. I really dont think you will go wrong with either of them. Here is another  one to look at but I think I would buy the Leupold.

All are very nice scopes.  I'm not a Leupold guy but they make fine scopes.  If it was me I'd look very hard at the Zeiss Conquest.  I think it has better optics then the Leupold and is still in the same price range.

Thankyou all for the great replies.  I agree that all three scopes listed above are all great scopes.  I am a little hesitant going with any other brands other then Burris or Leupold just because both of these scopes are made in the USA.  I know german made optics are top of the line, but where do you send them too when there is a problem.  I can not say enough good things about Leupolds service.  One year five days before elk season I went out to shoot my gun one last time before elk season.  I went to make some final adjustments and nothing was happening.  I had an old vari x ii scope that was older then me by 4-5 years.  I called Leupold and told them about the problem.  I live only about 45 minutes from Leupolds office and took the scope up and dropped it off in a panic.  The next day around noon the scope showed up on my door step, they went through the whole scope replacing anything that needed replaced free of charge.  That year I went out and killed my first branch bull.  I guess the moral of this story is I think Leupold has very good service and am asking how the other companies service measures up.  Thanks again for the comments!

One other question, Is there an advantage to a longer scope.  I notice that the Burris is 3" longer????

No advantage that I know of.

I have an acquaintance that had a problem (forget what it was) with a Zeiss Conquest. He sent it back to Zeiss and in about two weeks he had a new Conquest in his hands. I don't know about alot of the German companies, but I do know that Kahles (Austrian) does some repair work at a facility in Cranston, RI. Maybe someone else can elaborate on some of the other companies doing repairs on this side of the pond.

I am almost positive that the Zeiss Conquest is an American made scope.  Their higher more expensive line comes from Germany.

I would purchase the Leupold. I've had nothing but a terrible time with the people at burris. A fellow by the name of Gordon in particular. I'm buying a Burris scope from Burris directly with a coupon I won at a shooting competion. I send the payment in at the Begining of Feb. to make sure I had the scope for early spring when the tactical rifle matches start. Well I called Burris three times to inquire when my scope will be shipped. The first time they said about one month. The second time, a month later, they said in about one month. The third time I called they said maybe late July. And the customer service rep and this Gordon fellow acted like they couldn't be bothered by my inquiry. I have several leupold scopes and dealt with their customer service. It is top of the line. If I had more cash I be buying a Leupold. I can image what it would be like if a burris scope needed repair.

I prefer the Leupold with its 30mm tube - it has 100 moa internal adjustment which is more than most. The Zeiss is a very safe choice as it is the favorite of many due to the high quality glass. I also have had poor customer service from Burris.

I think the Boone and Crocket reticle or the Varmit reticle weigh strongly in favor of Leupold and nobody has better customer service.
