I recently bought a Remington 700 S/A .308 26" varmint barrel ADL rifle on sale for 350$.

Looking for a replacement scope for it, MADE IN the UNITED STATES, for 200-300$.

I live in Michigan and plan to hunt  with it at 200 yards and less, and if I can find somewhere to target practice (and I want to) out to 500 yards.

I have found: Leupold VX1  3-9x40 and the Redfield Revolution 4-12x40, both made in the US.

Are there any others?  Burris?  I can't find out if thiers are or not...

Sorry for emphasizing the US aspect of this...Japan, Germany, China whoever, will not get (more of) my money.  I know, I am severely limiting my options, but there it is...Loco

Thanks

If you limit yourself for strictly made in the U.S. , there won't be any options. Even the Leupy glass is made in Japan and China.

Some part of the scope, such as glass will still come from elsewhere. But at least some portion, such as assembly, is done in the U.S. I have no problem with German or Japanese products. Those countries are friendly to the U.S and respect intellectual property rights.

I'd guess look at Leopold in your price range???

True, from what I understand you don't know where these products are "made/assembled". I had a POS sony flat screen led tv that lasted less than a year and half before needing to be fixed. They came to my home to fix it and when they took it apart most of the components said Samsung on them... go figure??

Whether they are made/assembled in any one of a dozen countrys in the far east or in the socialist EU.

One guess is as good as the next... I guess. ;)

And..., I didn't mean to stomp on or come across on your thread as being disrespectful. I too get sick of the "globalization"  of the marketplace. But truth is nothing seems to be made in one country anymore.
Back to your original post... Leupold or Burris would be good choices. I would proably lean more to the Leupold side.

Well then...it comes down to the above mentioned...Leupold VX1 3-9x40 vs. Redfield Revolution 4-12x40.

From thier Websites it SEEMS they are made, assembled, or act like something from the U.S.

Anyone seen either and have any comments? (keep it clean...don't poop on my parade)

Can anyone confirm Burris as to US vs. Phillipines?

Minox Z3's are German glass assembled in the US.Zeiss conquest assembled in the US with Meopta glass.Given the choice I rather have European glass assembled in the US rather than any Orient glass.Just my American .02cents.

It depends on the model, contact their customer service and they will tell you which scopes are assembled here.

I done this a couple of years ago, but can't recall which Burris scopes were assembled here.

Isn't the Zeiss Conquest assembled here? Even though it is a foreign company, American workers benefit from "it" being here. And for the record, I don't agree with globalization either, but I agree with JonoMT, I have no problems with products manufactured in Israel, Germany or Japan for the same reasons he stated.

It is possible in one place to get made in the USA but you're going to be required to ad at least  one 0 to the budget number, to the left of the decimal.

Ok. OK...

I don't really have a problem with Germany or Japan, Israel, hell, even Russia...but it seems from the little I have checked, they cost as much or more as Leupold...

China, I have a problem with. Every tool I have ever bought from China has been a POS. I just don't trust the Chinese for quality.

That said, I think I'll go with Leupold...at least they have a good warranty.  If it's not as good as something from across the pond, so be it.

Is the Phillipines part of the US yet?Clown

Leupold gets most of it's glass from Japan but some has come Canada (used to E Leitz Canada) and some from Corning here in the US.
They now get some glass for lower end scopes from Samyang and some of their bino's and spotting scopes are assembled in China with either Chinese, Japanese or Korean glass.
Glass can come from one country and then go to another to have grinding and coatings done...because of toxic nature of some of the coatings they may be done in places like North Korea, China, Somalia, etc.
I have seen some military range finders and laser designators with US made glass but have no idea if all of the processes were done here in the US.
Leupold assembles all but the lower end scopes here in the US and most if not all of the components besides the glass are made here in the US.
Zeiss has some components and assembly done here in the US for their Conquest line.
Leupold will stand by their warranty and if necessary repair or replace.
They hire US workers and pay taxes and contribute to our economy and well being, plus they are back in the game optically.

I am sure China will take over most manufacturing.
Between the union's and EPA an all USA made scope is most likely NOT in the future.
Europe and their socialist nature has made their company's artificially held up by the EU. Bandaid after bandaid has prolonged their demise but, sooner or later like everyone can see the EU is running towards EPIC FAIL!

Japan like Europe will see the collapse of their wacky governments then soon after that manufacturing... the numbers can't lie.

I got a problem with China and Russia...trust them in the long run about as much as Iran. But let's not get too wrung out over U.S. manufacturing being dead yet. While it's not like it was in the old days, companies are realizing outsourcing to China isn't all it was cracked up to be. GE, for instance, has moved almost all its appliance manufacturing back to Kentucky. What's being realized is that you can do it better in the U.S. You can do it faster in a lot of cases. And most of the time, the cost is about the same or even less. Natural gas prices are helping. Chinese labor costs are increasing 18% per year.

Even Apple is moving production of some of their Macs back to the U.S. Now, if a computer maker can do that anybody can. Aside from CPUs, almost all the part sourcing for electronics is in Asia now.

As far as scopes are concerned, you really shouldn't have a problem or fall into despair if all or part are made by countries that respect intellectual property rights and follow fair trade practices. It would also be fair to say that Japan, Germany and Canada have to play on a more level playing ground when it comes to regulations, particularly related to the environment. China doesn't. You know how they're going to get around their one-child policy? Let the workers drink the plant water so everybody is born with two heads and an extra arm.

80/90% of Germanys energy needs come from Russia so, they are under Russias thumb. Germany is the only country holding up(barely and not for long) the EU. Like every socialist country they are running out of other people's money and their products while good they are only still making products because of the constant help from their governments.
The well is running dry something we are seeing here already.
