My nephew is going to start hunting this year and my brother wants to set a red dot (easier for young children) on the rifle.  His shots will be short; a max of 100yds and obviously doesn't want to drop a lot of money for this one.
Question:  Which one (if any) would be best in the sub-$200 range?
The only experience I've had with red dots was a friend's junker BSA.
FWIW, I think it'll be on a New England .243 as he wants to keep the entire package at $400.

Thanks for your help!

Vortex makes a couple that a decent.  I had the strike fire for a while.  I ended up selling it, but it was a decent red dot.

Do you think the 1/2 MOA dot on that scope was plenty big enough to make it easy for a kid to find?  I've no clue about these things...crosshairs and mil dots only for me..

Just wondering, is this one better than the StrikeFire?  Would the 2 MOA dot be better than the 1/2 MOA that the SF has?  I see some of these that have up to a 5 MOA dot, but no idea as to which sizes would be too big/too small for deer out to 100.

2MOA will cover roughly 2 inches a 100yds,  1 inch at 50 yds....

That will certainly cover the vitals of any deer.

1/2 would be to small to see.  2MOA is about  my all time favorite is terms of size

The strike fire has a 4 moa dot. 1/2 moa would be tiny indeed

I dont think i would like 2 moa. I borrowed cheapticks 4 moa and thought it was perfect. I wouldn't want any smaller

The 4 MOA dot on the Aimpoint Micro "seems" to be 3 MOA or so, doesn't it?

Other Aimpoints I've owned/used that had 4 MOA dots appeared to be larger than the Micros 4 MOA dot.
I say that never having them side by side to compare, so maybe I'm wrong.

I checked it again and the listing shows "Choice of 4MOA dot color..", but when I clicked on the individual item it shows that it has a 1/2 MOA in the Specifications section.  Is it just listed wrong?  Also, the low mounts would be better than the high mounts for a bolt gun, right?

I think the 1/2 moa is the adjustment per click.

Yes low would be better. The high is for an AR
