My buddy and I were talking and he has settled on 2 scopes for his 300 RUM

4.5x14x44 Conquest zeiss with Target turrets

or

Bushnell 2.5x16x42 Mildot
Considering tracking reliability clarity etc.....

What would you choose and why?

Neither, simply because those particular scopes do not offer adjustments that match the reticle. And neither are going to offer the internal adjustment to really stretch out a RUM. In that price range I would suggest a Weaver 3-15x50 (http://swfa.com/Weaver-3-15x50-Tactical-30mm-Rifle-Scope-P49448.aspx) for FFP reticle, or Vortex 4-16x50 (http://swfa.com/Vortex-4-16x50-Viper-PST-30mm-Rifle-Scope-P44565.aspx) for SFP reticle.
The Weaver is one of the best buys in optics, IMO, but it is not offered in SFP reticles. Matching adjustment is a lot easier than converting mils to minutes, and vice versa...
If it is tourist season, why can't we shoot them?

According to my ballistic program out to 1200 yards he needs 23.5 MOA.  That should be enough no?

Have either you or he shot at 1200yds? Hell have you ever shot beyond 300
We measure it with a micrometer, mark it with a crayon, and cut it with a chainsaw.

Ummm, why do you care? Sorry to say, but nobody EVER has, until the first time they do it! I don't want to start a pissing match. But to instantly throw up the B.S. flag, well it's kinda B.S.
