First welcome, someone will be able to help you on here for sure.
I think you named anyone I could think of. Who else are you looking for??? Not to be rude but what are your intentions? Swaro/Kahles??? Edited by 338LAPUASLAP - October/27/2012 at 17:28 |

Have read much about variables failing and have a close friend that recently had a VX III shift POI on him. I have always liked the idea of fixed power scopes being less prone to failure, and having fewer lenses, thus theoretically being brighter and lighter.
My perfect scope would be: High Quality fixed 6x42. Less than 16 oz. Elevation turret with zero stop. Fast focus eyepiece with locking ring. Side focus parallax adjustment. And have a reticle that looks like this: The "16 MOA" label is just for reference, not part of the reticle. I put the thick post above the horizontal instead of below so as to not obscure an animal's front leg, which I view as critical for judging shot placement. Didn't put any reference marks on the vertical crosshair because I would use an elevation turret for those duties, but prefer to hold off for windage. Wanted the thick parts of the reticle relatively close together so as to be able to bracket vitals at relatively close range in poor light. Of course I know I'm never going to find a scope with all those qualities, but was querying to see if there might be one close. I thought I had found it in the IOR tactical 6x, but reviews have been a mixed bag, varying from great to horrible. Anyway, I listed the ones I was aware of, but hoped I had missed an obvious choice. This fix 6x42 scopes are still produced also by the following companies: Docter Kaps Meopta and Zeiss still has some leftovers, since they stop producing this scope in August 2012. Others are listed in first post. In my opinion best one out of this is Docter. |

Unless I missed it, Meopta no longer has a fixed 6x listed on their current website. I'll keep a lookout for a 6x Zeiss. On some models, Zeiss USA will install target turrets for a small fee.

In the USA for 2013 you will see a new Mepta MeoPro 6x42, and outside of the USA Meopta still actively manufactures and sells a wide range of fixed power scopes; Artemis 2000 7x50, Artemis 2100 7x50 (Red Dot), Artemis 2000 6x42, Artemis 2000 4x32 and the Meostar R1 7x56 + 7x56 RD... the MeoPro 6x42 is the newest addition and meant to replace the Artemis 2000 6x42. |

That's good news on the Meopta Pro 6x42. Will they be available with tactical style turrets or target turrets?

I'd take a good variable over a decent fixed any day.

At this point the MeoPro 6x42 will not have target/tactical turrets, but if the feedback from enough customers says we need them, then it will get done.

Personally, I'd be interested in a simple, no nonsense 6X42 that is both light and compact with excellent optical performance, with a #4 style reticle combining really thick outer posts and really thin center crosshairs, and between 3.5 - 4" of eye relief.
If I want tactical turrets, I'm getting a variable. I certainly wouldn't mind if tactical turrets were offered as an option, but I won't be buying it so configured. But, that's me. |
