I'm wondering if any of you have purchased scopes off of ebay.  Any good or bad experiences?  There seem to be some good deals for NIB scopes,  but I've never purchased from Ebay before.  I'm a little gun shy.

Read feed back on seller that is a good sign if he/she is a honest ebayer. I personally think most good scopes are going to high on there. You might ask members on this forum the average price for a scope you are interested in. SWFA will work with you on all there inventory. They are by far the largest stock distributor in the world.

I would heartily recommend that you buy from a reputable dealer.

Theres no better dealer ANYWHERE than right here at SWFA.

All of these were bought on eBay from different user id's that pop up sale off a bunch of fakes then disappear only to register later under a new user id.

These Leupold examples are pretty poor fakes, I've seen some much better.  The Trijicon and Aimpoint you'd have to have in your hands to realize.  There are also some very good Swarovski fakes out there that we have yet to get our hands on.

Feedback is important but there are ways a seller can get good feedback.  They register multiple user names and have a stable built up full of user names that buy from each other and leave each other positive feedback.  They also sell little cheap items (DVDs or CDs) on one day auctions to build up positive feedback quickly.

If you insist on taking the chance, make sure its from a dealer you've heard of before that also has a real store or web site outside of eBay.  Read their feedback, look at the product they've sold, how long they've been registered on eBay and most important of all...only buy from U.S. eBay users shipping from a U.S. address.

Chris gave a good explanation of Ebayers. Also, get a phone number that you can reverse look up on 411.com to verify address where your money going to.

Thanks for the infor guys.  I'm planning on buying a Zeiss Conquest 3x9x40, and I caqn get one from Sportsmen's Warehouse for $450,  it is just going to take me a little while to save up that cash.  Obviously a better deal would mean the scope in my hands far faster.  But given the info I'm getting, I don't think a $100 savings would be worth the risk, escpecially on something as important as hunting optics.  Thanks again.

I've sold a couple of scopes on eBay, but have never bought one.  There's lot's of good stuff out there, and plenty of crap.  I switched to Gunbroker.com because they are a lot easier to deal with.  I have a couple of scopes for sale on there now and have been asked several times "Was this scope in hurricane Katrina".  Evidently there's been a bunch of stuff showing up on auctions that has been flooded.

Here's another example of what's on eBay:  My mother in law is moving, after having been in her house 35 years.  We were cleaning out her attic and storeroom last weekend and putting everything on the street.  There was a couple there with two pickups parked there picking up most of the absolute trash we were taking out.  I asked what they would do with it.  The answer; "Sell it on eBay"!!!!!!!!!!!!

Look at this Kahles Helia "sniper"scope this guy is selling for 300$. He says used condition - what did he used it for-anchoring a boat.

I had 2 exactly same optics(I got them in Austria last year for 300Eur a piece)- yes it is more but they were brand new(old maybe 20 years but never used) in the box- I sold them for 500Eur a piece.

Btw. They had the same optics with mil dot cross hairs which is more "sniper" to me than the 4A this guy is selling.
