Just picked up a 204 in a hs stock and need a scope for it. I'm gun rich and scope poor as the expression goes some options i've been mulling over and aggravating CFII about -
3-12x50 zeiss conquset durlyt zeiss conquest 3-9 Option B - Put one of these on the 204 and leave everything else alone, will probably turn into my gun I grab for most things pest related and target shooting. Leupold 4.5-14x40 VX-3 with CDS and AO Leupold VX-R 4-12x40 with cds Weaver tactical 4-20 minox ZA5 4-20 Vortex Viper 6.5-20x44 Pride Fowler 3-9 22lr scope because the 22LR and subsonic 308 are so close) SS 6X any other options are welcome, not really price sensitive as i'm already all over the place. I can't imagine needing a 3.5-18 on a big game rifle if shots are mostly 250 yards and less.

I sometimes go farther with it. Typically shots are less than 250 however it is the gun i travel with and carry with me on all trips. The large mag range helps when I need it

I would suggest the Weaver, just in the 3-15 configuration. It is more than enough for big game, even at WAY out there range.

Since your 204 will be shot more I would pull the swaro 3.5-18 off and put it on the 204. Why not have your best scope on the rifle you will shot the most? And I would look at a Swaro 3-9 to replace it on your 300wsm. And as you know better glass trumps magnification every time. I seem to remember a post where CF and CFII both use that scope on their go to hunting rifle.

The more I think about it the more I think I would be upset with less than the swaro on my 300 WSM. I think the range and clarity of it has spoiled me and I'd be upset with anything less. SO lets take option 1 off the table. I also think that I'd want more than 9x on the 204 so Option 3 is off too.
Lets just stick with getting something for the new 204...... suggestions? Like to dial so that ability is a must. 12x or better top end not more than 5 on bottom.

I still like my suggestion of the 3-15 Weaver.

I do run a 3-9 Swaro on my go to gun that has a lot more to do with weight than anything though. I am still sticking to my reccomendations. If you want to dial then that pretty much takes the Minox of the table. However I do a gent who had a Minox 4-20 on a .204 who could ring steel all day long. Granted it does take more thought to dial in being 1/8 MOA clicks it is still doable. The main reason people shy away from 1/8 moa is the fact that it normally takes away from your overall adjustment range, this is not the case with the Minox. I do not dislike Leupold but they are not my favorite either. If I wanted the best glass I would get the Minox if I wanted the easiest one to adjust, granted it's dedicated to a single gun, I would get the Leupold if I wanted both that would be universal adjustment for any caliber I would go with a Weaver 3-15.

I'm glad you made a decision-it can be mind boggling how difficult that can be with all of the great options out there. The first one I thought about was this though:
