    Posted: August/08/2012 at 23:25
My Son-in-Law is wanting to get into target shooting with something more than his father's old .22LR, so for Christmas I found him a Remington 700 Varminter in .223.  I would like to put a decent scope on it for him, but don't want to spend a bundle extra.

Are there any decent scopes in the $300 - $350 range for intermediate range target shooting, say, something in the 4-12, 6-18, or 6-24X range?

Any suggestions would be appreciated.
I fear I've reached that stage in life where I prefer a pedantic evening at home to a bracing exchange of gunfire in the dark.

Try Hawke Sidewinder Tactical 30 4.5-14x42 or 6.5-20x42

Also Vortex Viper 6.5-20x44 is very good for the money.  Both are a touch more expensive than what you stated.

If you are OK with a fixed power scope, SWFA SS 10x42 is a good option.

With variable, Sightron S2 4-16x42 is also worth a look and if memory serves me right it is more or less in your price range.

I'm thinking if it was me, I would snatch that sightron SVT listed from the sample's list and call it a done deal!
