I have the Warne 2 piece base for my Win Mod 70. When I installed the rear base I basically set it on the receiver and allowed it to sit in a "neutral" position. I then locked the rifle down in my Tipton vise and leveled the receiver off of the top of the rear base. Then, when I installed the front base and checked it for level in relation to the rear base it was off. Since there is clearance in the thru holes, I slid it over and made the 2 pieces level to one another and then leveled the scope from the base. This seems to work for me and the crosshairs appear to be plumb and level when shouldering the gun.

My question is, should I have forced the front base over or left it where it wanted to sit? The bases have a flat bottomed counter bore in them and with a socket head cap screw the head of the screw should be square with the bottom of the counter bore. With sliding the base over, I'm not sure that relationship is still correct. I don't know if shooting the rifle will cause the front base to slide if it is being merely pinched by one side of the screw instead of being pulled directly downward towards the receiever.

I have everything mounted up, but haven't shot it yet, so I can hopefully re-do this procedure if necessary and hopefully haven't hurt anything yet.

Can someone shed some light on this or tell me how to correctly install the bases. I have a Ziess Conquest 4.5-14x44 on this thing and don't want to screw up my scope because I didn't put the bases on correctly.

Thanks

Well, I guess this is why people use one piece bases now. The TPS Basebed system is discontinued, but I have another idea. The cross sectional profile of a Weaver base and Picatinny rail are the same. So I need a Picatinny rail adapter that is about 160mm long. Similiar to the style sold for the AGOG but longer. Then I can simply machine out a pocket over top of the cap screw and I'd have it.

So does anyone know of an accessory that is approximately 160mm long that would clamp over top of the weaver base??

PLEASE HELP!!!!

thanks

I think this might work. Does anyone know for sure if this mounts on top of a picatinny rail?
