I thought you were going to use your new Swarovski for antelope? http://www.opticstalk.com/gave-in_topic33466.html

I did last year. It is a hotter year this year so, I want to be prepared just in case I am hunting in shorts and a tee shirt. |

If you can't see the speed goat through the mirage, get closer.
You Swaro will work perfectly for your heat. Superior optics will help, plus with the variable, you can dial up and down till you find what best suits you.

Using your Swaro 3-9 you should be fine, if you have issues follow what Ed suggested and turn down the power. We sometimes hunt in shorts and tee during the day the first three or four weekends of the season because it can get Africa hot here. Most of us do use sun shades we're not hard hunting or walking very far in shorts (best way to get all torn up by the terrain). |

The area I am hunting is about 23 sq. Miles of walk-in with no roads. I am just going to start walking before sunrise with as little gear as possible and zig-zag across to the other side calling someone to pic me up on the other side if/ when I get one down. I will have to have everything I need because I just can't change gear if I want to beat other hunters into that area.
Just wondering which scope will help me the best to accomplish this?? |

The variable is going to be the best. If mirage is to thick, turn it down. If a longer shot presents itself during early morning before the mirage heats up, crank it up!
A fixed power scope allows you to get better glass at a lesser price point. Unless you have a S&B 10x, I doubt you have a fixed power scope that has better glass than your Swaro!

Like I said I was looking at a magazine saying a low power fixed is effective in dealing with heat waves. I will use the variable between you and me... I was looking for an excuse to use the new one. ;) Still a bit worried on scratching the new one though... |

I don't believe you're going to be hunting in shorts and a T shirt for antelope unless you are cactus-proof....but, I would use a 6X scope. That's a real goodie.

To avoid any future flame wars on my part... I think I will refrain from using any "brand" names of products from here on out.

How did you manage to find a fixed power VX-2? The "V" in there stands for "Variable".

Rustic the best way to beat tough conditions is to have the best equipment. Your scope is important, it doesn't really matter what is written on the outside of the scope, as long as what you see through the scope is clear and allows you to place bullets where you intend. I have never "hunted" with either. But your Swaro is a 6x, as well as a 3,4,5,7,8,9x! Can you see where that might be more flexible an option?
