Thinking about ordering one for a 25-06 and wondered how it compares to Conquest ?

Thanks,

Pretty comparable optically.

Unfortunately it has variable eye relief.

My buddy has one he likes a lot.

Would Nikon Monarch 4-16 x 40 be better or does the Monarch still have the tunnel vision problem?

Any other suggestions $700 or less are welcome !

IDK about the Nikon, but the Conquest is very nice.

Meopta would be a smart choice, too.

I agree with Bitterroot that it is very comparable optically to the Conquest.  I find the 4.5-14 Conquest to be the least user friendly of the Conquest scopes I've used, being the 3-9x40, 3.5-10x44, and that one.  The VX3 LR is more user friendly of the two IME.

I've give the Zeiss Conquest the nod over the Monarch.  I've been a Monarch fan for a number of years, but after taking a 4.5-14 Conquest on trade, I'll be replacing my Monarchs.

Monarchs are quality scopes and what I could afford at the time, but the Conquest are much better and I like their Rapid Z reticle on a hunting rifle.

Meopta R1 4-12x40 is a very nice scope in that price range.

Regardless of what Zeiss says, that particular conquest does not have a true constant eye relief.  It varies some too, and it has a somewhat limited FOV.  It also has a very critical eyebox at higher mags, and not nearly as forgiving at lower mags as the VX3LR.  Keep in mind I'm talking about the VX3LR w/side focus.  it is more user friendly regardless of the variable eye relief.  On 14x it's still generous enough with room to spare.  The duplex reticle on the VX3 is also easier to see for my 51 year old eyes than the Conquest duplex at dusk and dusk-thirty.   Now keep in mind I like the Conquest very much, just not that particular model.  The turrets on the Conquest,  the target turretsl I believe, are not even numbered at all.

My partner and I just got through with a LR Tac match last week: Shots out to and beyond 1000 yards (10" targets with bonus targets being very small).
The Leupold VX-3 4.5-14's did a great job.

I've pretty much made my mind up on getting the Leupold.

I just think it would be a good fit and my biggest issue is 1" vs 30 mm main tube w/ 40 or 50 objective.

No need to discuss eye pupil or adjustments because they all should do what I need, it's all about what will look right on this rig at this point.Smile

PS: JG, you posted as I was typing and want to say thanks for taking the time and posting. The color of the stock blends nicely with the barrel, optics and pad

i don't think leupy makes a 30mm main tube scope, except for the new VX-6... so if you're sold on the gold ring, that decision is made for you, unless you want to go from 700$ to 900-1k$.

Vx3s are sold both with 1" and 30mm tubes.
