I am assembling the line-up for the next High End Tactical article. I have already contacted some of the manufacturers, and will contact a few more. I am looking to start on it in the fall and wrap up by the end of the year or thereabouts. This comparison will be on long range scopes with 56mm (or close to it) objective lenses, FFP reticles and top end magnification of no less than 24x. I would like to see some nominations on which scopes you think should be in this article. Thanks ILya

Is the Steiner 5-25 out yet? And how set are you on the mag range? Because I would love to hear about the 3-20 S&B as well.

If it is tourist season, why can't we shoot them?

I am more set on the objective lens size than on the magnification, so the 3-20x50 is not going to fit here. 5-25x56 would be a good fit, but I am not convinced I will be able to get my hands on one. I never got any traction with S&B people, so unless I can borrow one from someone, I am SOL there. I should be able to get my hands on a Steiner. ILya

Karl Kaps do a couple of 56 in FFP. That would be an interesting evaluation of a little-known scope that appears to be good value. Particularly the 3-12x56 TLB.

Does anyone import Kaps scopes here? Do they make any long range tactical scopes?
I thought that their 3-12x56 was a hunting scope and the highest magnification tactical scope they had was a 2.5-10x56. ILya

They make an 8 x 56 and 2.5-10x56 with Tactical and Spindler Reticle. I don't know much about them. See their web site at http://www.kaps-zielfernrohre.de/en/.
I think the US importer is *competitor*. Please read and follow the rules you are required to acknowledge when you become a member of the OT Forum. Moderator Edited by Kickboxer - July/29/2012 at 07:24 |

I know it doesn't meet the 56mm obj or the mag range, but at 47oz it is really heavy! And how about "The Beast" that Night Force is supposed to be bring out? And maybe you could get a hold of the new high mag range Henny...

All right, quick update:
- I've got the Steiner 5-25x56 in hand and will start testing it - Premier 5-25x56 should be arriving in September some time - Ken Pratt of Khaybes (Kahles importer) will loan me their 6-24x56 for the article later in the fall - I sent an e-mail regarding March 5-40x56FFP - Leupold Mark 8 3.5-25x56 may be available to me later in the year What else can I get my hands on? - Kaps does not make anything that would fit this article - Zeiss/Hensoldt has a 6-24x56, but that one is SFP only. I do not think the new 3.5-25x56 is available yet. - Does anyone have a contact at S&B I can talk to? Historically, I have been singularly unable to get anything going with them? Their 5-25x56 would make a good fit for the article, but they seem quite scarce at the moment. ILya

I would like to see a U.S. Optics scope represented in the group.

I'll look into that, but I might run out of space. I was hoping to keep the size of the comparison down to five scopes or so and I already have commitments on that many. Looking at too many scopes side by side is difficult. ILya

You could easily cut out another two hours or so of sleep every day and work on additional scope reviews...
As I see it, not a problem...

That plan would have pull an all-nighter a couple of times each week. I appreciate the suggestion, but I think I will pass. ILya
