One of our locals were complaining that his third shot always printed higher then the previous two, messing up his cloverleaf grouping.
We all gave him the usual advice of bedding, scope rings etc etc.
One guy advised him to check the nose of the boltface. This is on a 303 rifle, he maintains there WILL be a high spot at 3óclock touching the barrel. Polish this away and he is onto a 3 leaf clover.

Anyone heard/know of this type of problem?

Unfortunately the guys are all the same, take advice and never report back. So I cannot yet say if he did find this problem and if it helped.

Is this an Enfield rifle?
Life's concerns should be about the 120lb pack your trying to get to the top of the mountain, and not the rock in your boot.

Yes, as far as I know. But some guy owning a Sako said he inspected his boltface and found a similiar high spot.
This seems to aflict positive control feed bolts????
The big thing is this dude was so sure of his advice.

On the Sako bolt head, the ring enclosing the case head is interrupted by the extractor. With the bolt open, the extractor is at 3 o'clock but, with the bolt closed, the extractor is at 6 o'clock. Make sure that the sharp edge of the extractor that faces the barrel, does not touch. This is sometimes difficult to see because the leading edge is so small and sharp. Check the barrel face at 6 o'clock for sharp little line.

I'm scratching my head on this one Wouter. I could only speculate on the problem and the cure.
The reason I asked if it was an Enfield, is that they have changable boltheads to adjust the headspace, and it might be possible that the headspace is boarder line tight or loose, or some other issue associated with the bolthead.

Sorry, it is a K98 action. My question hinges around this:
I and others gave this guy advice to check the bedding, action screws etc. Then this dick comes on and says check the boltface and see that the boltface is not touching the barrel (as per the Sako description above). His post/advice is in Afrikaans so I cannot post it.
Now we continue to troubleshoot, so dickhead comes back and states"do what I tell you and your problem is fixed" He is very sure of himself. Generally he is no fool and he makes and sell bullets.

I just wondered if anyone knows of this problem and how can he be so sure of himself, having not seen the rifle? I called his bluff and he got all nasty and defensive.

So I just wondered?

The owner of the rifle has shot since, made no mention of said possible problem. He says it was a bad day for him and he cannot comment on results.

Could be the jerk behind the trigger.

Beltfed, yes, all these possibilities were raised.

My question however is:

Has anyone heard of this type of boltface problem?
