1. Why in the world won't Sako chamber any of their popular rifles in the 85 like the Grey Wolf, Finnlight, or Hunter Stainless in 280 or 280AI? I see they've come out with all these Bear guns, I think they are missing the boat on these 2 fine rounds to increase sales.
2. Does anyone here own a Cooper and can you tell me about their customer service? I've been trying to communicate with them about ordering a 280 & they don't seem to cumstomer friendly. I've sent several polite emails with no response, called twice and some lady answered and had no clue what I was talking about. Went to their website on the part where it says build a rifle and the thing gives some silly answer its not avaiable yet. Any info or thoughts would be nice...........................thanks

1). I guess they are only going to chamber what they believe will sell the best. IMO, the .280 (and A.I. ) likely would not make big #'s, so they are a no-go.
2). I've had my Cooper for a few years, but have had zero issues... so that I've not dealt with their C.S. If they aren't answering your inquiry e-mails (or if the phone info was lacking) I'd not be happy either. My guess though, is that they are very busy (most gun makers are now) so that they are "stretching". Your money, your choice. Good luck. |

The other side is if your email is from a bulk provider like gmail, yahoo, hotmail, etc... it could be filtered and go straight to a spam folder. A lot of companies have systems that do that.

You might want to check with your local Cooper dealer. They are more likely to get Cooper to answer your questions and pricing concerns.

Call Hill Country Rifles in New Braunfels, TX. They'll hook you up, and they're great to work with.

I know what you mean about getting a quick response on your questions. I like that too, but they are different size companies. It would not surprise me if just the size of the CS department at Swarovski was multiples of Cooper's whole company. You might try calling them. I have talked with them and they were very good to deal with over the phone. Also I seem to remember several threads on Cooper's CS. So you might want to do a search here for Cooper. |

Sorry I forgot in your original post that you had called. When I called I asked to speak with someone about building a rifle and that individual knew what was going on. In my experience most receptionist are not that knowledgeable on the product but know where to transfer your call.

Agreed, Sako already carries the rifle in 7mm Rem Mag so I can see why they may not carry the .280. Cooper on the other hand carries the in .280 in some models and the 7mm Rem Mag in others. Their more of a custom shop so you may be able to order the caliber/model you want. My cousin has the Jason Hunter in .280 and it's a shooter (a little on the heavy side IMHO). I will say their new web site sucks. |

Cooper wants you to go through one of the Dealers rather than spend a lot on a staff to handle orders. There new web site is a bunch of crap. A lot has changed up there since they booted Dan Cooper after he supported Obama in the last campaign. Previously you could call and talk to knowledgeable people. Now Cooper Firearms has become much harder to talk to. They do have some good Dealers scattered around. I have had good relationships with First Stop Guns in Rapid City SD and Cove Creek Outfitters in PA.

1. The same reason any firearms company decides not to chamber a given cartridge. Bean counters undoubtedly determined those chamberings wouldn't sell enough rifles.
2. Have 2 Coopers. They really shoot, and fit, finish, and wood quality is all first class. My only dealings with CS was when they had a recall on the firing pin/ cocking piece assy of my rifles, whereupon I sent my bolts in to get the updated parts. Turnaround was very fast. This was before Wilson Arms bought the company in the wake of the aforementioned Dan Cooper scandal that nearly brought the company to its knees, and I haven't had any dealings with them since Wilson took over. |

I'd give Hendershots a call and see what they have in stock and what's on order for them as well. Personally, if I'm dropping $1000+ on a rifle, I'm not making any compromises on caliber, that's for certain.
