I have a SIG 556 SWAT.
I will be shooting 100, 200, 300 yards at bench rest most of the time.
I'm looking for a scope that fits the above.
AS for price - around $500 would be good but I'm flexable, if the scope can double
as a spotting scope.

Thank You

All the tech stuff has passed me by and I'm catching up.
The last rifle I built was Winchester 70/.270 3-9 Weaver. 1977
Wonderful set up and I still have it.

Yes - magnification and variable for 100 to 300 yards and maybe more.
I'm looking at the Nikon Monarchs 8426 6-24 x 50   $649.95
Want do you think?

Thank You,

Welcome to Optics Talk, Bill.

The Monarch you listed isn't that well thought of, even among Nikon fans, like myself. Would suggest you look elsewhere.

If at first you don't secede...try..try again.

I'm mounting a Minox ZA5 1.5-8x32 with Versa-Plex reticle on my Sig 556 Classic. However, I haven't actually fired with it yet at all.

That Minox has quite long eye relief. Since I have a long neck and tend to crawl the stock anyway, to mount the scope far enough forward while still fitting the rings on the receiver rail, I need to put both rings on the rear portion of the scope. The extended top rail on the SWAT model should give you much more mounting room though, so you shouldn't have to do that. One minor plus of that long eye relief, is that if you want to mount a flip-up iron sight behind the scope, there's actually room for it. Unfortunately though, IMO nobody makes a good flip-up aperture sight that's short enough to take advantage of the Sig 556 rifle's low sight line (like a traditional bolt-action rifle); all the AR-15 sights are vastly too tall.

I went with Leupold 6.5 - 20 X 50 with 30mm tube-Silver.
Quick release mount.
It was a snap to set up. I have a laser bore sight so getting on paper
should not be a problem.
If this thing works half as good as it looks - It will be OUTSTANDING !
The scope, mount and mailing was $1049.00 from <<competitor>>
I got it in the mail 3-4 days after order.

Now I'm looking at my 70 Winchester .270 w/Weaver 3-9x30 (I think)
That set up is 47 years old and has never been off. I really don't want to
touch it but I can't help wondering what it could do with the Leupold was on it.

~BEST~
