I have 3 of these. Very, very good mounts.

QD or permanent?
If QD, the Bobro/SWFA mount mentioned above is probably your best bet. ILya

One really does need the mount to go slightly forward like the SWFA BOBRO mount does. That may not be the least expensive way but the best available choice at SWFA. The least expensive way to go would be to buy a riser and use regular rings above that.

Wes brings up a good point.
How much time will this scope be on the AR? Full time or part time? Here's my AR with low TPS rings and a Weaver rail, like Wes posted. I pulled this scope off my bolt rifle and put it directly on a flat top AR, with the riser mount. |

I've tried pretty much all the different possible methods of mounting a scope to an AR over the years. My favorite is the one piece quick detach systems like BOBRO / SWFA mount or similar GG&G or LaRue. The one method I liked the least was the ultra high Badger steel Max 50 rings they were way too heavy:
These Warne rings are a similar deal but not nearly as heavy and a lot cheaper. If you use the ultra high rings you do not need the riser but if you use the riser your standard height rings will work fine.

If you can bring yourself to spend this much this would be an excellent choice and the quick detach feature with return to zero is nice.

Permanent. Do I need to get the scope as close to the rifle as possible?
One piece or two price better?? |

If you are going to go for a permanent mount I personally would still stick with the one piece. To me, the one piece seems more solid and is easier to install level. You do not want the scope as close to the rifle as possible with an AR, I think the average mount is 1.3 to 1.5 inches above the bore to give you the proper head positioning. I have used the following and never had any problems with them:

cpwomac made some good suggestions of that group the one made by DNZ would probably be my pick mainly because it's such a clean design, I do generally prefer to use rings that have two screws on each side of the ring, but this should work well for you.

Older post but caught my attention. I currently have the Burris PEPR on both my AR and LR-308 rifles, but considering replacing them. These are working rifles and spend a lot of time bouncing around in vehicles, dropped to the deck...etc. While I've had no issues with the PEPR, any known issues with the PEPR? Most comments I've seen have been very positive and it is a good value.
What separates the likes of LaRue, Aadmount, Bopro or Spuhr from the PEPR? Trying to understand the 3x+ price differences.
Anti-cant level built in to the Aadmount and Spuhr are nice features, but hard to swing the $400 plus price on the Spuhr. Aadmount's made in America is another big plus.
LaRue's reputation precedes it and comments on Bopro's have been equally positive. Just trying to get in front of a potential issue before it happens at the most inconvenient time.

The PEPR is cheap cast metal. The others you listed are cnc machined precision mounts. The materials used and the way they are made I am sure makes the $$ diff.
The PEPR is a decent mount, but it does not even compare to Bobro or LaRue. It is like comparing a Bushnell 4200 to a Swaro Z6. Sure the Bushnell is a good scope and works just fine. But comparing them side by side to the Z6 the diff is pretty significant. |

I totally blew past that distinction. Read how some of the mounts were machined from a solid piece of aluminum. Knowing the downside of MIM parts for 1911s, this should have been obvious to me.
Thanks for pointing out what was right in front of my nose.

Any significant differences between the LaRue, Bopro or Aadmount or is this a Ford-Chevy discussion?

I think the bobro is better than the larue. I had a larue and when i got a bobro i sold it and bought a couple more bobros. The way the attach is much better imo.

Let me answer it this way for you. We each have our own preferences. The BOBRO and AADLAND are Awesome strong mounts and would serve you well the SPUHR mount has some innovative features, and as for Mark La Rue -well people either love him or hate him there is no in between. All of the above products are well worth three times the price of the crap you have been useing. La Rue stands behind their products and is my preference, but I buy my optics at SWFA and they stand behind their products also. It's a TEXAS thing.

Aadland quick detaches with air compressor and impact wrench
(not supplied). If you do not need the quick detach feature this is the ticket.
