Back when I was growing up it was more commonly referred to as "Splash Day". It was the day the swimming pools opened and everyone went to the beach. We used to get a group together, all load into to the ugliest, beat down car any of us had and go to Galveston and stay on the beach for 3-5 days (sometimes longer). IF we were lucky, someone we knew had a hotel room where we could clean up. If not, salt water is better than nothing. Back in those days, most hotels/motels would not call the police if you just ran and jumped in their pool (to get the salt off). Everyone pooled money for food and beer. We were FRIENDS and most everyone else were neighbors. Very few "malicious" incidents took place in those days and if they did, they were taken care of by what would be called "vigilantes" today. (there was an ongoing battle between the "Cowboys" and the "Surfers" and there were great fights galore... no one got badly hurt, there were black eyes and bloody noses, and the losers got more chicks than the victors. Sometimes we "traded licks" to get black eyes so the chicks would feel sorry for us.) In those days the police were thankful for the help and people did not need to carry cameras everywhere to protect themselves from the Gestapo. Yes... it was a better time. We were better people. Overall, the whole world was a better place.
I'm not really being nostalgic, just relating a better time... a time before "we the people" got lazy and allowed the communists to have their way with our country.

Been a long time since I was on the beach in Galveston, went to A&M Galveston for a year before I joined the Corps. The last time I was there they ended up shutting down the whole island because some idiot brought a shot gun to the beach to show to his frat brothers. He ended up shot and all the fellow fraternity types rioted. Used to love crabbing on breaks in Galveston.

I'll never give up my individual rights. The commies and socialists can stink up NYC and crap on the streets and call me names, etc. At the end of the day, when the sh*t hits the fan, i've seen real war, been there, done that, own firearms, have training, and will absolutely (if physically capable) defend my family first and then this nation from the limp wristed, tree hugging, cowardly commies.
All these left wing nuts can get up in arms but at the end of the day, it's people like you KB, Rancid, myself, that these asshats will look to when the world comes crumbling down around them.
They can kiss my ass. If you can't appreciate the greatest country in the world (for all it's flaws) then i have no respect for you as a human being.

Sorry, was remembering the good old days. Got a good one for you from my extremely liberal brother:
Background info: There is a bill in the State house that hasn't been approved that will allow permit holders to keep their handguns in their car even if their employer forbids it. My Brother: "If they want to work at VW then they can leave their f***ing gun at home!" My Response: "If they want their welfare dollars they can stop smoking dope and submit to a drug test." He couldn't come up with anything to say after that. Hard to belive that we both came from the same parents, but he has spent his whole adult life in school, I on the other hand didn't go to school until I got of active duty. Amazing the liberal crap coming out of colleges these days.

Lock and load brothers. Unfortunately, it would take an hostile invasion of the CONUS for the Lefties to have their eyes opened and brains flushed of the crap they contain....that or a civil up-rising I'm afraid, where we would instantly be labeled as vigilantes...
Ernie we'd be hell on them....if we couldn't shoot them we could at least beat them to death with our walkers....
