Just small near us but grew to half a mile in diameter 15 minutes down the road!

Tornados suck.
Hope your health, home, and property are ok.
Life's concerns should be about the 120lb pack your trying to get to the top of the mountain, and not the rock in your boot.

I'm watching the live feed from weather.com

Hope everyone is safe down there! They showed a terminal where entire 18 wheelers were picked  up and destroyed.

My daughter, Meghan, was in Oak Cliff when the sirens went off.  She was talking to a friend and then they checked the sky and scrammed!

Meghan went back home to Grand Prairie and said a tornado touched down a quarter mile from them but was only on the ground for 10 seconds. My other daughter, Jordan, was locked down in class at Tarrant County College in Fort Worth until all clear.

Damage in Arlington and baseball-sized hail!!

Luckily we don't get Tornados here in South Africa, and I hope it stays that way. Scary stuff 18 wheelers in the air, I'd be digging a very deep hole.

April 3, 1974 was my first real encounter with a tornado, when a EF4 hit Looneyville. First touch down was on top of the hill that we lived on the side of. No damage to us, but we could see debris from the 2 houses on top of the hill that were destroyed. Lot of death and destruction that day. It's hard to believe the destruction that a tornado can leave behind, and the power that they have. Watching those trailors flying in the air, and the security camera footage from the High school that was destroyed on March 2nd here; makes you realize that you can lose everything in seconds or less.
My prayers are with the people who have to deal with this disaster.

My daughter Meghan is kinda like 'Tornado Annie'.  She was in Haviland, Kansas when the F5 tornado hit Greensburg, Kansas in 2007.  Of course, she was living in Pratt, Kansas at the time--- only thirty miles from Greensburg.

She and a friend were driving around out in the country when all of a sudden the air went deathly still. The sky went yellow.  They said: " Uh-oh...! "  Suddenly the wind picked up and my daughter said suddenly all the heads of the wheat snapped off and the rains came!!  They beat it back to Pratt at 90 MPH in rain and hail.  I asked her if she could see down toward Greensburg and she said " Yes! It looked like something out of the Bible! "

The next day it was announced that President George W. Bush was going to come out to Kansas to inspect the remains of Greensburg.  Meghan, being a little journalist at Pratt High School, wanted to interview the President of the United States.  She and her friend went around to all the newspapers in the area to see if they couldn't get a press pass so that they could be with the Media in Wichita to interview George Bush when he arrived on Air Force One.

Well, the Western Star newspaper in Coldwater, Kansas gave those girls a press pass!  They were there in Wichita the next day at the chain link fence, next to CNN, and ABC, and NBC, etc.  While they were waiting there, the Secret Service ( or somebody ) gave everyone in the Media a WHITE HOUSE PRESS PASS good for 24 hours!

Well, George W. didn't come over to the fence to talk to the news people.  He just jumped on a helicopter to fly out to Greensburg.

So, the next day, my daughter---NANCY DREW!!!----went out to Greensburg with her friend to get a " story " anyway!

The entire town was yellow taped off by the National Guard, but when the authorities saw their press passes ( and yesterday's WHITE HOUSE PRESS PASS!!   Bucky ) they were allowed into the devastation!!

Meghan said the whole place looked surreal.  Everything was gone.  She said she saw baby dolls with, like , one eye missing, laying in the ruins.  She said she saw a glass coffee table standing in the wreckage that had a deck of cards on it (!) and ONE CARD was tipped over!!  The HOUSE was GONE!!!

She got a photo of that.

She said all of the combines and tractors at the John Deere dealer were GONEGone.  They never came down anywhere.  They were just flat GONE.  They are still gone.

Those girls wrote a two-page spread story about Greensburg for the Western Star newspaper in Coldwater, Kansas that ran in the next issue.  They were seniors in High School.

My sister-in-law lives in the area.  My prayers have been with you all...  Glad that everyone I know is so far safe and deepest sympathies for those who suffered loss of any kind.  Tornadoes are very strange creatures.
Keep safe, everyone...
