Interested to hear how you clean your firearms and with what. What solvents and such.

I don't deep clean that often, only when the gun needs it. I use a bore snake a lot. When I deep clean, I use M-pro 7 to clean out carbon and Montana extreme to get the copper out.

Lifetime warranty and excellent customer service don't mean a thing when your gun fails during a zombie attack.

For rifle bores?
Wipe Out! I don't use brushes at all, except a nylon brush w/ a patch to mop the chamber. Wipe Out is awesome. It removes everything without any scubbing. Leave it in overnight, a couple of patches to get the Wipe Out out, and a thin coat of oil in the bore, ready to shoot. |

I take every little nut, screw, pin, spring off or out of the weapon. I clean with a special formula I have for the shop and lightly scrub and rinse. I then lightly card with a carding wheel every little piece. I then take and lightly oil every piece while I'm putting all back together. I also polish the chamber and clean ALL lead and copper out of the barrel. I also take and lightly polish all wood stocks and clean plastic. It takes about 2 hours on a bolt rifle, 2 1/2 on an auto/shotgun/revolver, slide guns take a little bit more time.
As for cleaning after every range session I don't. I usually clean about every 100 rounds. polished chamber A revolver I did the other night Edited by Bigdaddy0381 - March/22/2012 at 11:33 |

+1 on the Wipe Out, except it's hard to find around here.

Life's concerns should be about the 120lb pack your trying to get to the top of the mountain, and not the rock in your boot.

Barnes CR-10 for my bolt guns. Nylon brushes, patches, and I oil lightly with Mobil 1 motor oil.
AR's?? Brake cleaner and CLP. For those reading this...I remove the extractor from the bolt and keep the the rubber "O" ring and the spring away from the brake cleaner.

I got a Swedish (I think) mortar round container, with the intent of filling it with something like Hoppe's No. 9, and putting an airriator in the bottom. The plan was to strip a firearm of all wood and/or plastic and putting it in the tank, turning on the airriator, and leaving it there for a day or 2. Pull the gun out, wipe it down, oil it up and put it back together.
The problem was venting for the airriator inside a house (fumes in the house), and the cost of 10-20 gallons of bore cleaner.

BD, you remind me of a mate I had. We used to shoot for 10 min and clean the firearm for 3 hours. We are no longer friends.
I have slightly changed my cleaning regime: I use a carbon remover and soak the barrel. I do this till the patch is cleanish. Then clean with Shooters Choice. Then a copper remover. The rifle and barrel gets wiped clean with Ballistol.
End of cleaning.

That is once a year cleaning on my guns. That is how I clean all the guns that come into the shop for repair or just the cleaning. |
