Hello there,

This not really a rifle scope, but I thought the question is so similar that it is arguably useful for the audience.

I have a microscope. It has a central main objective. It seems the previous owner had an accident and sprayed some particles onto the surface of the bottom lens:

I have tried cleaning with isopropyl alcohol, acetone and a polyurethane paint solvent. It didn't help.

What is your advice?

Thank you for your time.

Kind regards,
Marius Jonsson

Wow, that's a tough one. I can think of various solvents to try (such as MEK...Methyl Ethyl Ketone) , but have NO idea how they may affect the glass or coatings. I guess I'd contact the manufacturer of the microscope for their advice. What a shame to have to deal with that mess. Good luck. Whatever

It looks like what ever they sprayed on to it ate into the coatings to me.

If acetone won't clean it, anything that might will probably etch the glass/coatings. Any idea what the substance was?
