Has anyone done an in depth review of the scope. I'm kinda intrigued about it. I was able to look at the re batch blackhawk version at cabelas and was pretty impressed. Really intrested the emdr version due to it having 100 m o a adjustments which translates into enough mils 4 shooting out to 1 k.

I would do a search for that scope here.
And this is one post that also has some links in it. http://www.opticstalk.com/help-me-pick-a-scope_topic32033.html?KW=Weaver+tactical+emdr+3-15x50 |

How many mils can you do in one turn of elevation...how is the glass quality and return to zero repeatability?

5 mils per turn. Glass quality is about what you would expect from a sub-1000 dollar scope. Glass is good, but it's not top tier. Reticle is the only real downside to the scope. They didn't bother to put a 1/2 mil hash mark at the center of the reticle. Coincidentally, I use my reticles to hold for wind, and most of my wind holds are between 0-1 mil. Without that first 1/2 mil mark, I may as well be using a standard mildot reticle.

I guess it all depends on what line of work you were in, but probably not. If using a scope day in and day out, I would save up for a better scope. A nightforce f1 with mlr2, or a s&b pmII is probably what I would be looking into. I myself use a Vortex Razor, although very large, it's a fantastic scope. I use the weaver on a backup hunting rifle, and feel it works well in that capacity.

Well I carry a gun every day for work. Unfortunately none of the LE or Mil get enough range time but reliability matters and this scope is ultra reliable.
I have two of the illuminated SS 5-20x50 and two of the leupold Mk4 scopes but prefer the SS.

I don't use an optic.that way was just curious....I'm currently working on some liquidation to clear up funds for a S&B PMII but sure would like the weaver for an unscoped savage long range hunter 6.5x284 I have had for for a while

I think I may...If so Its going to be used as a long range hunting scope most of the time, not something I would depend my life on so Im sure it will measure up fine. If I can I also hope to be able to order my S&B soon and that would be a great measuring stick as well.

if i was in a line of work where lives depended on my shot id spend 3 grand on a scope, so no. i think it would hold up fine though if you were forced into an emergency situation. i trust the scope more than i trust my ability to make the precision shot. ill paste my answer from the other thread here for the sake of cross-reference: i spoke about one of my bugs with the turrets index not lining up but it was an easy fix. the only other issue so far is the brass internal screw that holds the turret knob to the actual gear that moves the reticle backed out a bit. i was a little worried when the knob stopped working but figured out the issue and took 10 seconds to tighten it. no more issues. the one in the windage knob was a little loose too. both issues seem to be a problem with whoever is doing the final assembly on these. im using a bobro mount from SWFA and it is amazing. i store the rifle without the scope so it goes on and off pretty often. never had an issue and never lost zero. i wanted a FFP/mil-mil/ilum scope and my price range locked me into the weaver or the PST. i scored the weaver on a black friday deal and was able to use the $50 weaver rebate that has now expired so my out the door price was 630. seemed like a no brainer. the scope is a tank and i have no doubt it will stand up to anything i put it through. glass is really nice in my limited experience. ergonomics are good. i cant see any reason to buy anything else in a sub $1000 scope. if i could afford the SS 5-20 id be all over it but at half the price im very happy. |

I have one sitting on my desk that will go on my LaRue OBR once they see fit to finally make the thing. I think the glass is much better than I expected and the build quality was like a tank! The illumination works well but is a little bright for no light conditions but works well for dawn/dusk type conditions.
I plan on doing a more in depth review and WILL take this scope to 1000. I bought this to teach me what I wanted in a long range optic. After I get better and know my limitations I'll fork over some money. I think this is a good jumping off point for MY needs. FYI, I could have bought the SS 5-20 and chose this to learn on first. |

"I think the glass is much better than I expected and the build quality was like a tank!" I absolutely agree with you 33shooter.
Glass
quality is great and the 4" eye relief makes it comfortable
and versatile to shoot for extended periods of time. The lockable turrets are nice and when unlocked have a nice solid click. I have done a complete review on the Weaver Tactical EMDR 3-15x50mm. Once I post it on my website I will post it here as well. From Weaver: For those involved in the serious effort of protecting life and liberty, both here and abroad, Weaver is proud to offer rugged rifle scopes designed specifically for tactical applications. As part of the new Super Slam series, these tactical scopes are manufactured to the strictest tolerances in order to perform in the harshest environments. |

As a follow up, my Weaver failed. The elevation turret broke. When I pulled up on the turret to unlock, the adjustments disengaged (best way to describe it) and when I turned the turret it lost zero. Scope was replaced and the replacement sold.
Having spent time on other scopes since this I can say the Weaver is a decent option in the price range. I would prefer the Vortex PST line as the price points are close and the vortex feature set is a little nicer to me. A better option if extra funds allow are the Bushnell HDMR and the SS 5-20. The SS I have been using has much better everything but one item. The eye box is a little picky to me. |

There is not a better overall scope for under $2000 than the SWFA SS 5-20x IMO. Don't let people kid you when they are comparing a $700 to $1000 tactical scope to the SS. Ultimately they are just not comparable. They may offer a feature or two here or there that the SS does not have, but they are just not the same in the quality dept. The Weaver or the Vortex PST are not its equal in any way.
But that being said they definitely have their place and are a good value. It just drives me crazy when people try to say a PST or Weaver tactical is as good as the SS 5-20x. The Vortex Razor is the one that competes with the SS 5-20x. |

I thought I'd just add a question to this thread to avoid starting a new one about the same scope.
I've had the 3-15x50 MDR on top of an AR for about a year now and have been completely satisfied with how it has performed. Occasionally, I will look down range longingly at the 1200 yard targets, wishing I had a rifle that could reach that far. Well, now I do, and this scope has been moved over to it. My question, though, is will it survive on top of a 300 win mag? |

The Weaver is rated up to .50 cal. and my buddy runs one on a 300 win mag with no issues.
