I'd say the fact that he survived is a testament to modern firearms design. Scary stuff there. Pay attention fellers.

I had someone try to tell me they did the same thing at one time.  .308 in a .25-06  M700.  Said he had to send it back to Remington to get the bolt out but that was it.  Yea,right.

All he got was a banged up face? Well good to know he didn't loose any limbs, much less his head.

Only one time have I ever used the wrong ammo in a rifle.  A friend shows up with a .270 and .25-06.  In the course of me sighting the .270 in for him  Loco he hands me a .25-06 cartridge. Only thing that made me realize something wasn't right was the lower than usual report of the rifle and of course I missing the target at 100yds.

Your very lucky it was the 25-06 in the 270 rifle and not the other way around!

Anyone who cant tell the difference between a .308 and a 25-06 should not own both they dont even look similar. Obviously this is a self solving problem with a huge wake up call as he no longer has a 25-06.   When I buy rifles I want the ammo to look quite different like .223  .308 300WM 45-70. Some things like 270 loaded in a 30-06 or 7mm08 loaded in a 308 would be way too likely to occur so if I own a .308 then I dont buy the 7mm08 and If I own a 30-06 I dont own a 270. If one tried to load a 30-06 into a 270 it would not close the chamber but if you load a 270 into a 30-06 it will go bang and split the case. Take notice if the bolt is hard to close remove the ammo and figure out why.

Would think the feel of the bolt would be different loading a 308 in a 25-06.  Hard lesson learned.

Then you have to remember how long it takes to get a rifle over there. He will have plenty of time to think about it. Whacko

This is just an abject lesson to all of us to be mindful at all times when we are shooting or reloading or just handling firearms.
This means be mindful of what others near us are doing, as well. The ranges have been crowded, lately and a lot of the participants are completely inexperienced with firearms.
I recently watched as the lady in the indoor lane next to me, loaded and chambered her new 9mm and she then turned and pointed it at my liver while she "fiddled" with her grip, with finger on trigger.
My liver has a hard enough time, as it is.
