I was wondering if anyone knows of some viable alternatives to Butler Creek flip-up lense covers, I have used these for years, but have seen too many new ones break in the last couple of years.  (the ones I bought 15 years ago are holding up great).  I really like the looks of the Leupold Alumina flip ups, but I don't have any Leupold scopes right now.  Anyone know of any alternatives?  I am looking specifically for covers to fit a Vortex Viper HS LR 4-16x44mm, but have others that could use an upgrade as well.

Right now nothing else in the flip up department.  I would however suggest just using the covers that vortex sends with their scopes on the elastic bands..

I feel your pain, since bushnell took over butler creek there have been nothing but problems. It's a shame that a once very dependable product is now a hit and miss product.

I think I have a couple of Quake caps kicking around somewhere, I could pull them out and take a look, They didn't work very well on binoculars, but may be ok on a rifle.  It doesn't look like many places sell them anymore though.  RD?  What does that refer to?

Weaver makes a flip-up cover (I think they call them Polar Lens Cap).  I bought a set for my 4200 and they seem to be holding up fine.  They come with yellow and grey lenses that can be interchanged, but I just use them as dust-protection.

I did look through the yellow lens when the sun started going down and I was surprised how bright the view was.

Might be worth looking into.

We hear nothing but good about those Leupold Aluminas, but of course you point out that you need the threaded Leupolds to use them. Many members here have obtained the ScopeShield Alaska covers as a highly desirable alternative to any flip-ups. Here are a couple previous post links:

Lately they have been miss and miss for me. I have been using scope coats.

Bushwacker makes the flip ups that came on my Kahles scopes. It says Kahles on the front and Bushwacker around the side. They are slightly more Compact, and more pliable than the Butler Creek covers.

Yes, I have the Quake Bushwackers on several scopes, and for the most part, they've held up well so far.  I've broken the hinge on one cap, but then I've also broken a couple BC's.  Just looking at them, they appear more fragile than the BC's, as the cap is thinner.  However, the sleeves that attaches to the objective and ocular housings are more pliable than BC and grip tighter, so they aren't as prone to getting accidentally pulled off the scope.  I will buy more of them.

I bought the ones that vortex sells (I think they're bushwakers), and they are a piece of crap. The coil is too lose to hold the cap in place when open. It bounces around a lot. The eye piece cover hits my forehead every time i shoot, and even though it doesn't hurt at all, it's really annoying and makes you loose your concentration.

I'm buying butler creek for all my scopes, much better than this brand.

I've just bought two #28 objective butler creek flip caps, which I believe is the correct size. Neither fit well on my two diamondback scopes. Both are too tight, but one is tighter than the other. I can't close the caps when they're installed on my scopes. I've had to file and sand down the inside rubber (it was that or sand down the scope.)

Quality control seems a bit off in that respect, otherwise they look good.
