Not only but the muzzle blast can be a real slap to the face.

If someone is dumb enough to see me shooting with a brake and then stand next to me, it's their loss. A whole line of shooting lanes and you pick the one right next to me, and then complain about it being "obnoxious". Loco

Muzzle brakes even make 5.56 obnoxious.
I have a friend that used to have a Barrett. After the first round I learned to stay directly behind him when he shot, and not to the side.

I read something the other day on a target shooting site I ran across.  Guy was all excited because he had just gotten a muzzle brake installed on his 10/22... I thought he was KIDDING...

Actually I have two braked 22LR’s a S&W 41-1 and a Ruger mk1 with the factory muzzle brake.  It balances the Ruger better than the bull barrel.

I used to shoot that braked Sendero in the dirt and off a bi-pod occasionally. Kicked up a hellified dust cloud after the shot too. Dust all over that fine German glass in that Schimdt und Bender scope....

I dont like muzzle breaks due to the noise but I love Smith Vortex flash suppressors.
