My son has been after his first deer for 6 years. I have put him on deer and he has put himself on deer. It just never worked out for one reason or another. We went Saturday afternoon to close the deal. We sat from 4 hours and nothing was moving anywhere. I told him we would go and look at a power line with the fading light and might see one cross. Nothing crossed. It was fairly close to safe shooting light being gone. As we walked from the power line thru the field to the truck HE yells deer. I saw them about that time. They were moving from right to left across the field. I told him to see if he could see them in his scope and he could. He asks “can I shoot" i said yes. I guess in the moment I was loud and the deer stopped and looked at us. BOOM, she was DRT. After jumping and yelling and a few tears he settled me down and back to job at hand. I ranged the deer at 125 yards from where the spent case was at. I always have him shoot, prone, sitting, standing, and any other way I can think of. He always hated it when I made him shoot from an odd position. He is now thanks me.... He is now hooked for ever. He even field dressed it with me telling him what to do.

Tell him "Great job", for me, Brandon.  And I'm glad you recovered enough to help your son with his first "field dressing" job.  I'm sure he could have done it on his own, but it was good he didn't have to take care of you at the same time...
