As far as I know the Elite lines have always been Japanese made. |

I saw a while ago that they were Bausch & Lomb scopes that Bushnell turned into the Elite line and slightly, continuously altered - always from Japan.
I like seeing made in Japan on anything I buy. |

They have always been made in Japan. They used to be called BAUSH & LOMB 3000 and 4000 ELITES. Then they changed the name to Bushnell Elite 3200 and 4200. They are exactly the same scope. The newer Bushnell Elite 3200s and 4200s added RAINGAURD COATING to the lenses. That is why they are called 3200 and 4200 instead of 3000 and 4000, the 2 in 3200 and 4200 designates it as a RAINGAURD model. The 3 in 3200 and the 4 in 4200 designates the zoom range. The 3200 is a 3x mag(3-9x40) range while the 4200 is a 4x mag range (4-16x40). It just means that the mag range goes up 3x itself or 4 times itself. The 3000 and 3200 models where only multi coated and used to have tube and saddle attatched to the tube and had a lesser recoil rating. The 4000 and 4200 had Fully multi coated lenses, one piece tube and saddle and a higher recoil rating and a tad better glass. Then they came out a few years ago with a Bushnell Elite 4200 3-9x40. They did this to compete better in the 3-9x40 market. But by doing this they screwed up the designations of 3200 and 4200 because now it was a 4200 quality scope in a 3200 magnification range. They finally decided to get rid of the lesser 3200 series and just make one ELITE SERIES with the most popular magnification ranges and the better construction and glass of the 4200 series. So now you have just the ELITE SERIES which is basically the exact same scopes all built to 4200 quality and specs.

As I recall, I read here that the two 3-9 models with side parallax adjustment are made in China.
