Need a little help from the experts. Thinking of scoping my PTR91. Gun shoots 1.5 MOA, and with my poor eyesight a scope would definitely help me get the most out of this gun.
Most of my shooting will be 100-300 yards, so I'm thinking that 6X would be just about right. Will mostly be shooting paper at known distances, but it would be nice to have some range finding capability. Scope must also be rugged, hold zero and be of good optical quality. Willing to spend $500. Don't want something that's too big or too heavy.
Based on this criteria I'm leaning to an IOR fixed scope. However, it appears that there are two different models. One is non-illuminated, a little larger, but has wider exit pupil and better eye relief, also .25 moa per click. The other is a illuminated, smaller and a little lighter, but doesn't have the same kind of eye relief. Also one click equals 1 moa.
Any recommendations would be appreciated - including other makes and models. Anyone else scope their PTR91 or HK91. What are you using? What do you like about it, what don't you like about it? |

Go with the IOR 6x42 with 30mm tube and an MP-8 reticle. The other scope is a 6x30 with a 35mm tube. I think that the 6x42 is a better way to go: excellent glass, rugged and a great reticle that alows rangefinding. As for illumination, I would not worry about it much. The 6x42 is better in low light and the MP8 reticle is very visible.

Just thought I'd give everyone a quick update. Followed your recommendations got the 6 X 42 IOR. Have had a chance to take it to the range once, and I am very impressed. Optics are outstanding. Better than my Leupold. I really like the reticle as well.
Mounted to my PTR91 with a set of medium IOR rings, the gun was producing some very satisfactory groups at 100 yards. Had Williams Trigger work its magic on the standard 10 pound PTR91 trigger, and between the scope and the improved trigger the gun was right on the money.
Assuming the scope continues to hold up, I will be a very satisfied customer and would definitely think about getting another IOR. |

Yup, MP8 reticle. I really like it. Gives you the mildot info. you want while still keeping the scope clean looking. (It really bugs me when mfgs. try to cram in a whole bunch of largely unnecessary crap - makes the sight picture too busy.) Crosshairs are thick enough to be easily and quickly visible, but thin enough that they don't obscure the target.

Agreed.....Those Horus Vision reticles look like some kind of crazy video game to me.
Good deal. Glad it suits you. |
