Forget the spray. My huning rifle, 45/70 guide gun with magnum rounds, and a 454 casull. If he survives that, he can eat me.

Unfortunately, I see FWP's point.  Some idiots would find hearing about a bear's location as a great opportunity to become "one" with the bear.  Sometimes they get their wish, literally.  Ask Timothy Treadwell.

Always good to assume you may run into a bear in bear country.  Be prepared.

It's not the first bear I've run into while hunting, but hands down it was the most brazen.  I've spent a great deal of my time in the back country of NW montana, and Northern ID.  I've run into Grizzly in alder thickets when they were 20ft from me, but they have always lurked off.  Most often I've seen them in clearings eating huckleberries.  I sneezed once while walking through a clearing that borders Canada and six of them stood up and looked at me, they then proceeded to head for the timber.  This bear obviously didn't care that I was a human, and I think he was thinking about coming and taking over my kill.  I always try to pay attention when I'm in their territory, and give the bear the benefit by going around him/her.

And I also understand why they don't want to announce to every idiot where they recently transplanted a Griz.  I just think once they lose their fear of humans and show a blatant disrespect for humans that they should probably be put under.  I know it's not the bears' fault, but all the idiots that go to yellowstone and either feed the bears, or don't secure food in their camps, or leave trash laying around.  The park should enforce harsher punishments for violations. My brother was working in yellowstone last year, and was astounded by the numbers of idiots.  One example was a Griz that had killed a buffalo and was eating on the carcass.  My brother said that people were walking up to within 10ft of the bear and taking pictures of it while it ate.Loco  Even after being yelled at and told to leave the vicinity others were still walking up blatantly disrespecting the park rangers.

Sorry not trying to hijack your thread...

BTW are you packing in on your back, or do you use horses to transport your gear.

It is alright.  Your not hijacking anything.  I love talking about bears.  I've been lucky enough to see many grizzlies in my time in the woods.  Years ago, I spent several summers clearing trails and fighting fire outside the park by West Yellowstone.  I have had many contacts with bears and they were usually the "turn tail and run type."  Sometimes they just walked away.  Some times they followed me for a ways before leaving.  I had a biologist tell me the bear that followed me was sizing me up as a meal.  I don't know, but it makes for a good story.  I was actually in on a couple of "problem bear" traps, and they actually "relocated" one to the Libby area.  As you probably know, they usually give them only one shot at relocation, and if the bears head back to society, they euthanize them.

As far as packing in ... I do it both ways.  Typically I backpack my alpine mulie hunts and pack-in on horseback for my elk hunts.  However, the area where these bears were would be impossible to get stock into, without a couple years of trail construction.  It is remote.

Sounds like central and northern AZ... Nothing to see here, move along...
Curious, what does that mean?

What it means to me Sam, is the state of AZ has become infatuated with drawing out of state tags to the point where it is damn near impossible to draw an elk tag anymore...
If it is tourist season, why can't we shoot them?
