I have a remington 700 5r milspec. I have come across a deal on a nightforce 12x42x56 scope is this too much scope for this gun and what is the thought on a scope with this much power.
The price on this is just too good to pass up even if i re sell it

That is a lot of magnification. I would prefer much less. If you can make a dime on reselling it, then why not?

Tell us more about how you will be using this scope. Is the scope new or used?

Buy it and resell it.
Way too much mag for anything a 5R can do, 308 or 300WM.

I have an 8-32 on a 50 cal it is way too much. But it was a great deal for a new Nightforce. I am not sure if I have ever used it above the mid 20x range and mostly 20 to 22x.
You might check here to see what it is worth. It might seem like a great deal until you find out what it is really worth used. |

If you are positive you can resell it for more and won't be screwing a bro then get the scope and move on to something like the SS 5-20 or SS 3-9 or consider a Weaver, Bushnell or Vortex tactical if you're interested in going out to a grand for a grand or less. A .308 is not a groundhog gun. Here's what my 5R looks like with the 5-20:

Okay It will be a range gun only no hunting and the nightforce is 800 bucks used in perfect condition a guy purchased it with a hunting gun and cant use it. I dont know if i should even bother with it or just get something a lil less powerful. I just thought at that price why not own a night force

Night Force has at least 2 12-42x 56 scopes one is $1885 and one $1359. I'm not a NF expert but they may have more so check the model against competitor to see current pricing.
