Ok, so you've decided to pony up for a premium scope for your rifle. The three choices that are available (from SWFA ) are the aforementioned scopes. You are either going to go with the Sample List or new from them, depending on which is cheaper. The rifle setup is going to be used for: 1) Whitetail, boar, basically anything under 500lbs. on a 30/06; 2) Shots will be taken any time of day, the majority under 200yds.; 3) Emphasis on clarity, reliability, brightness (many hunts go into early evening)
So, what do you go with??? The S&B is $999 (sample list), the CL is $900 (SWFA new) and the Zeiss is $1,300 (sample list). The bell is 50mm and magnification is 3x10 variable.
Thanks! |

Any one of the three will work like a charm.
All in all, pick one that looks best to you. Alternatively, pick one with the newest design, but all are good. Ilya |

koshkin, Thanks for your imput! When you say "pick the one with the newest design" are you hinting toward the CL?
Again, I appreciate your help.

For the hunting you mentioned, do you REALLY need the side focus of the CL?
I'd go S&B or the Diavari, my friend. The Zeiss will be little lighter than the Schmidt, but both are wonderful scopes.
Have you considered reticles??

I would get the Zeiss. I would have suggested the CL with the multi-zero option, but you are shooting 200yards and less.

I agree that the "multizero" feature of the CL really isn't needed for my uses. I am considering the model CL without the multizero. I believe SWFA offers if for a tad under $900.
As far as reticle is concerned, I really don't need a mil-dot or any other fancy rangefinding crosshairs. Just want something functional as far as this is concerned.
Do S & B, Zeiss and Kahles do a lot of upgrading of their scope features yearly. What I'm saying, would 2 yr. old S & B and/or Zeiss Diavari glass be "inferior" to the new model CL?
Thanks again to those sharing their knowledge & opinions! |
