On June 8, 2011 the following unfortunate arrest took place in Canton, OH. Notifying the policy when you have a firearm is required by Ohio Law, but when this individual with a thirty-day old license tries to do that he is repeatedly ordered to look away, shut up, or interrupted and "forced" to change what he is speaking about by the actions of an aggressive cop who maintains verbal control of the situation.

A two man car dealing with three people put itself at risk when one officer started what appears to be an illegal search of the rear of the car without extracting or securing the driver - which would have given him an opportunity to notify.

What follows is horrific example of a police officer losing all self-control, threatening to beat the female, threatening to beat the driver and eventually saying he should have executed him "and wouldn't have lost any sleep over it" that night.

Warning : Strong Language

Most police around here are very supportive of CC Holders. Here, as with most police out of control situations it is the failure of the management to weed out the bad seeds. You can be sure that this is not the first time this officer has been overly aggressive. Blame can also be directed to the ignorance and arrogance of the Police Unions to properly train there members. Not to just protect the bad apples. Union Welders, Electricians, Steelworkers etc. provide training and education to make sure the members know their jobs. Know there jobs before being sent out on the job sites. My view of the police and other civil service unions are that they focus mostly to protect the bad officers from loosing their jobs and getting more pay. With little regard or effort going to insure that the public is getting the beneficial training of Union workers. Well trained people have better and more consistent reactions in any good or bad situations.
Folks ain't got a sense of humor no more. They don't laugh they just get sore.

Need to follow the rules. Just hard to determine which set of rules to follow
Now the rules have changed again.

Luckily, I've never had issues with our local PD's. In general, Florida favors CCW's.

The best way to get along with the police is to act in a well behaved rational reasonable manner.
When people choose to hang out late at night in bad parts of town keeping the company of known criminals, the circumstances change  - mere suspicion becomes  Reasonable Suspicion and when you add unusual activity one male in driver seat one male in back seat door open known prostitute standing by open back door late at night in area known for drug trafficing and prostitution + any furtive movements - motions that indicat you are hiding illegal contriband or a weapon in the vehicle - DING you now have PROBABLE CAUSE to believe a crime is occuring based on your past education and experience as a Police Officer, at the very least you certainly have valid reason to search the area where you removed the guy in the back seat from as it is an area he could lunge to obtain a weapon so for the officer's personal safety the search of that back seat under those circumstances is Totally Legal under Texas Law anyway. Other states have other laws regarding search and siezure in Iowa it is even more loose it seems.  The truth about searches is that when it comes to drugs if you suspect drugs even if you almost have enough for probable cause there is such a pressing need to address this problem that you likely will conduct the search and hopefully be able to clearly articulate in your report what made you suspect that criminal activity was occuring.  Win or loose if the cops find your drugs youre not getting them back even if you dont get prison time.

Next issue - Dont lie to the cops - it pisses them off. If your down there talking to the hooker fess up or shut up but dont lie.

If you by law have an obligation to disclose that you are carrying concealed  keep your hands in plain view on the steering wheel palms up fingers apart and speak up -  GUN PERMIT is all you have to say once the word GUN is said you will have his undivided attention.  Remember  SHORT VERSION !!!

Next suggestion: The cops are not always right sometimes people get tickets they do not deserve I have gotten two of them myself even when I was employed as a cop. The system is not perfect but - DO NOT ARGUE IT ON THE SIDE OF THE ROAD - you get your day in court go tell the judge. You may get found guilty even when you were not guilty but do not argue it on the side of the road.  BE POLITE AND RESPECTFUL or be SILENT and SAY NOTHING. You have no obligation to say something that will incriminate yourself,  politely decline to talk about it.  It is the states obligation to prove all the elements of the crime.  It is not your obligation to help them do it - shut your mouth and call your lawyer if you are really in trouble.  If you dont agree with what the officer says simply say: I respectfully disagree and leave it at that.   Remember  SHORT VERSION!!!!  People who lie cant keep their story straight.  Guys telling the truth dont have any difficulty keeping the story straight.

Obviously the cop in this video made serious tactical errors and acted in an extremely unreasonable manner.  Note the guy has 16 previous complaints.  Chief buy a clue.   Now that this video is public a review of the entire departments manner of doing business is needed. I find it shocking that the tape did not get accidentally erased and made it out of police custody.  This is a law suit waiting to happen.

Ask yourself if there are two guys in a car -- is one in the front and one in the backseat normally -  NO

Ask yourself do you see any other people out walking around or standing by the road - Hmmm unusual

1.07 Do you see the guy in the back seat jump back in and close the door as soon as the spot light comes on  -  DING  Furtive Movement  Suspicious Activity

Choosing to carry a pistol is a lifetime commitment to avoidance and de-escalation of conflict.
