I've been looking at the M2 for .223 with the "dragunov" reticle...I have a 2 questions -
1] Is this an illuminated only reticle? Or is it black when illumination is turned off like a regular scope? 2] Dragunov reticles do not (or shouldn't at least to my knowledge) have a vertical cross hair above the center chevron. Some depictions I've seen of the reticle show a vertical cross hair, others do not. To make matters more confusing...the IOR site shows the thumbnail depiction of the reticle to have a vertical cross hair, yet when you click on it to get the enlarged image, they've linked it wrong and you get the NATO image. Which is what confused me, because the thumbnail photo of the NATO reticle shows it as having a duplex, and appearing sort of like a German reticle upside down, but the enlarged looks totally different, doesn't have duplex etc.... Given this....I am assuming that these depictions are not accurate as to what is actually inside the scope. Does the M2 w/ dragunov reticle have the vertical cross hair? I also noticed that they name it either the MP7/Dragunov...while they have one on a higher magnification scope called the V-Mark that looks more like a true dragunov reticle... Thanks for any help you guys can offer! Edited by Black Squirrel |

I've got on of those (with Dragunov reticle) for sale on Ebay, and I can check on the reticle when I get home. I am pretty sure that it has no vertical bar above the chevrons, but I'll check.

WOW! Thanks for the help. You guys are amazing. Thank you again...
That reticle looks nothing like the deptiction of the dragunov...like it has the NATO's style range finder, rather than a curved line...and not vertical crosshair above the chevrons... The reticle pictured above is EXACTLY what I was hoping the M2 would have. |

How do you find this reticle (and scope) for 100 to 300 yard shooting? I'm thinking that for mostly range shooting - and general plinking - I wouldn't need the mil-dot reticle. What do you all think? Also, how much is the gap between chevrons? I think the chevrons are 1 mil tall. Are they also 1 mil wide at the base? John. |

I've used this reticle a fair bit and I like it. If you are used to crosshairs, it takes a little practice to get used to aiming with the top of the chevron. Also, the reticle is a bit thin so target acquisition is not as fast as on thick reticles. I like the ease of range estimation though and of holdover, and I am quite used to aiming with the chevron. I think the base of the chevron is 1 mil wide.

Thanks for the quick reply. I'm not used to scopes at all - I'm using iron sights
and am thinking about putting a scope on my M1A. I'm not going to be shooting out to 1000 yards - mainly because there is nowhere around here to to that! And my eyes are not what they used to be. Any other comments on this scope/reticle? I'm thinking of the IOR 6x42 John. |

I do not think this reticle is available with the 6x42. 6x42 somes with an MP-8 reticle which is, all in all, a better allround reticle. I think that would be one of the better scopes for an M1A out there.

OK - thanks for the info.
A 6x looks like the best power for these short distance. John. |

The reticle is called Dragunov ....but this is only for sale pourpose..its not identical. Anyway there are several Russian made Dragunov reticles (you can see some if you look at the original PSO1 factory..the Nobosibirsk optical Plant website.
Now I got a question..... IOR M2 have centered reticle ? If not ...there are ANY advantage in non centered reticle optic scheme over the most common centered reticle sistem ? I cant understand why the russians choose non centered reticle scheme for the PSO.. |

I do not think M2 has centered reticle. I think it is the same as M1: moving reticle (I need to double check this though).
The non-centered reticle, if I understand this correctly is easier to manufacture. Also, I think it is easier to avoid parallax issues with the reticle that is non-centered like in 4x24 M1. ILya |

Hello ots03
I have a original PSO1 russian with miltary serial numbers and a updated chinese PSO1 with miltary serial numbers and you are right the reticles are not exactly the same but all the same features are there inclding the inverted V's to aim. In my opinion the IOR has a even further upgrated reticle than the new PSO1's and is far superior in quality. The chinese model does have a IR detection screen that works better than the russian model. The russian model has a heavier reticle that is easier to see than the chinese but the chinese scope is more precise in aiming and movement. IOR's Dragunov reticle is no marketing gimmack in my opinion.
