I would not entirely count out the Aimpoint red dot scopes with 2moa dot they can be very effective for a couple hundred yards.
But traditional glass does seem to be more clear due to the coatings used on red dot type scopes with the exception of some Trijicon scopes.

Well too late for me. I have already committed to this scope.
I do requre something with magnification... to be effective at even 100 yards. My eyes just can't handle that distance accurately without help. I certainly understand the advantages of the red dot, it just prevents me from shooting accurately at any significant distances that are much more likely to happen.

Just noticed this thread.
Just for the record the Swaro Z6 does not have enough eye relief to be used as a scout scope. ILya

Good point. Here are the details on the Leupold from the other thread.[QUOTE=Brady] There’s limited choices among scout scopes and most of those choices are fixed powers. SWFA through the efforts of Leupold’s custom shop has put together the Leupold 1.5-5x33 VX-R Scout Scope. Available exclusively through SWFA http://swfa.com/Leupold-15-5x33-VX-R-Scout-Scope-P51466.aspx
Dot size @ 100 yds = 4.7in/12cm (lower power) & 0.79in/2cm (high power) Battery Life = 120hrs if used continuously (do not allow to go into standby mode or be turned off) on the highest illumination setting.
