Would like some opinions on the minox ZA3 and zeiss conquest, both in 3-9x40. Is the glass comparable and are there any big differences between the two. Is the zeiss worth the extra money as the minox sells for $399 and the zeiss for $499 (canadian prices) I have never looked through either and would have to order it online, appreciate any advice you have.

The minox is conquest level glass at a lesser price from all reports.

I own both and I like both of them, glass wise the same. Minox functions as well as Zeiss IMO, looks nice too. Still I prefer the Zeiss, I just like the name even though I think the Minox is the better deal....

Have both, but the Zeiss is a 4x32 and the Minox is the ZA-5 1.5-8x32. I don't see much of a difference when I look through them, although it's not apples to apples due to the fixed vs. variable.

I like my Conquest better. Minox was OK, couldn't really warm up to it, traded it in for a Swaro Z3.

bricat,
Where were you able to trade in a scope? Maybe I could trade in my Swarovski z5 5-25X53.

Although Zeiss is a fine brand, I think they're a little overpriced. And Minox uses Schott glass, one of the best glass manufacturers. But to each his own, get what you like.

I have limited experience with Zeiss, aside from handling several units.
I really don't care for the unmarked Zeiss turrets they appear to use on the 3-9x 40mm model. Just some simply MOA/IPHY markings as on the cheapest of Chinese scopes would be a satisfactory improvement for very little extra cost. I really like the ability to dial for range and reset zero, even on a hunting scope for big game, and a turret with no markings makes it hard to use a dope chart successfully. I've only looked through one Minox that a guy brought to the range, so I have never been able to compare it with a Zeiss in a field setting. To my eye, the Minox was very, very clear. However I'll note that I'm well satisfied even with optics at the level of the older Vortex Vipers, so I'm not a very "refined eye". |

Everyone's eyes will see them different, so if you can, get a hold of them to look through. My best opinion...

SVT_Tactical,
Thanks. I filled out the form.
Thanks for the offer. I already have a 6500 in 4 1/2-30X50; a very good scope. I would like to sell the Swarovski and buy a z5 5-25 with the turret. |

Rich, if I'm reading your thread correctly you already have a z5-25x52 and want to trade it for the same scope (z5 5-25x52) with Ballistic Turret? Call SONA and check on the price to ship yours back to them to install a BT. From past experience the turn around time with SONA is very quick and the cost might be less for you in the long run. |

I will give them a call tomorrow morning. I will post the results as soon as I know something so others can benefit from your advise, too. |
