    Posted: May/21/2011 at 03:15

My son is right handed but left eye dominate and has always had trouble shooting a right handed gun so I am going to switch him to a left handed rifle. I checked the online auctions and could not find many stainless LH rifles. I rather wanted a LH Remington XCR in 30 06 but could not find one. I saw a few A-Bolts and no LH X-Bolts but I did see a Ruger M77 Stainless Hawkeye Sporter for a decent price but my friend says they shoot patterns not groups and have a rough action. In addition, I read an online article at the Chuck Hawks website about the Hawkeye and it was not very flattering both of the rifle and new LC6 trigger. My only experience with them is my 10/22, which I do like. Does anyone here have experience with a Ruger Hawkeye and if so what do you think?

Thanks,

Sam

Take everything you read and hear with a grain of salt. My wife has a Hawkeye (7mm-08) that shoots just fine. The action and trigger were a bit stiff when new, but after repeatedly working the action and normal shooting, it is perfectly acceptable. The rifle is sturdy, well built and very dependable. You could do a lot worse my friend. Good luck.

Ruger rifles are fine, however, I have never seen or heard of a left handed stainless Ruger Hawkeye. Can you share with us were you are seeing this gun.

Thanks,

Well I took a chance on the Hawkeye Sporter, I found a good deal at gunbroker, got a left hand 300 Win Mag for $509.00 + $20.00 shipping. I hope it's not a sprayer and I hope my son likes it, thanks to everyone for all the advice and I'll keep everyone posted.
