Looks like some kind of red-dot type scope to me. Can you get the reticle to light up?

If it is tourist season, why can't we shoot them?

EARLY ELCAN OR RAYTHEON RED DOT SORT.
How did you come across this? What weapons system? Flat Top AR or Military? Very Similar to what is usually on a G36 without the peep. Seen other similar ones on FNH equipment. Edited by 338LAPUASLAP - May/18/2011 at 21:40 |

Yeah it lights up fine, has an aiming laser, and the rest I think is IR, but I don't have any nods to test it

I got it from a guy in law enforcement and it's on an M4, he couldn't even tell me the name of it though so kind of hard finding any info on it.

It doesn't look like an Elcan to me. I saw something with that general outline a while back... I'll have to think on it a bit and see if I can remember where I was when I saw it. I've slept since then...

I do believe it's an old laser designator. For laser guided weapons.

I don't believe it would have enough range... laser aiming device if mounted on the M4. I've worked with the designators and they are much larger... you want to be 2-3km away from a designated target... at least I do.

That one should have a >15km max range. Similar military units have about 20km range. Externally powered units have greater range than internally powered. Min distance from observer to designated tgt is 3km desired... some will range closer, but puts you in the CEP, usually. If there is some type of cover, it's doable. |
