I was thinking about purchasing this scope. I have three rifles that need scopes, mod 70 223, mod 110 sav. 243, and an a-bold 260 rem.
What recticle should I get? I may use it for a backup hunting rifle in CA Serria Nevadas, but more likely just target shooting.
The BDC dead hold has me confused, it specifically says "100 to 400 yards Bullet drop precisely calculated to compensate for the elliptic drop of a 50, 55 & 62 grain .223 bullet". Will this recticle work for the other calibers? I went to Vortex.com and downloaded the recticle info, it doesnt mention being calculated specifally for 223.
and then there is the C3..
Any input would be appreciated.
Thanks

I have the 2-7 viper with BDC and have had it on a .35 rem and a 7mm-08 with no problems at all. another member here has his on a 375 H&H mag., and has had no problems either. I cant remember if his is BDC or C3, but I dont think you will have any problems with the BDC on any rifle you wish to put it on!

Aww I think they sold out on the BDC. That leaves two recticles remaining. Any preferences and why? Or do you think I should get an elite 4200 in 3-9? I would like to spend around $150, I feel that both are great deals. Last week I broke the bank with a z5...
Thx

the 4200 3x9 is another scope ive got. its been on my .375H&H and currently sits on my .300wby. its got a really short eye relief 3.3" constant at all powers, where the viper has a lot more in that category. |

I too have both scopes, and my 4200 is currently on my 308. like pyro says, the eye relief is a bit shorter than the viper, but it is an awesome scope in all respects. I dont think you could go wrong with that one either.

Pyro sweet pic! What rings are you using?
Any pros and cons on the C3 or the vplex?

If your looking for a reticle to get you on target QUICK the C3 is it. Best I've used to date anyways. It's a very good all around reticle for general big game hunting.
The only con I can see with either reticle would be the possibility of neither being optimal for LOW LIGHT hunting.

Here's a GOOD read on a higher magnification (12X) Viper that should be of some help.
