I have a Harris 6-9 bipod sbrm. I really like it, do wish it was a little stiffer on the swivel. I am  really a better bipod for loading up. The harris i think would be fine but the feet will hop or scoot forward if u try to load it up sometimes. I see they have some aftermarket claw feet which cost ALOT. I would not really mind paying 150-200 for a bipod if it was really good. Like an Atlas. I looked at the atlas but it is designed for a railsystem. Does anyone know of a good bipod, perhaps with claw feet, or something that will be easy to load up pretty much no matter the surface its on?

GG&G and Sinclair...  higher cost, but worth it.  The Atlas is very good as well...

I just got the Seekins SRS rail that I needed to mount my Atlas so haven't had it out to the range yet. But I have tested it on the smooth concrete in my basement and while it will slip a little, it's way better than my Harrises (which I've already sold off). At the range, which is rougher concrete I don't think I'll have any problems. I'll let you know when I get out there. In most ever other respect, the Atlas is better designed and is more functional...and it should be for more than twice the price and a 6-8 week wait time. However, if a bipod is an important part of your shooting rig like I find it to be, it's worth it.

It needs to be able to attach to the swivel stud. ALot of the higher quality ones attach to pic rail

If your stock is made by H-S Precision or MacMillan you can use the Seekins SRS. Really any stock could probably be modified if it only had one swivel stud by drilling it for a second threaded insert. Granted, the SRS can run you $40 so that plus an Atlas is serious dough.

Right now i have the factory savage plastic. But I do plan on getting a B&C medalist. I do not want to modify/drill it though.

I am looking at the Versa right now but I hear they are a little wobbly. I like the ability to pan and tilt though.

Versa-pod is very versatile, but it is a little wobbly and loading it up is not the best option.

Atlas is very good for loading up and, on balance, is probably the best bipod I have used.

Tango Down bipod did not impress me all that much (ditto for EMA tactical).

I am not familiar with the other two.

I just got done taking a precision rifle class.  At the school they were pushing using a pack instead of a bipod.  Reason being during recoil when using a bipod you are recoiling against a solid object (bipod) that is on another solid object (the ground).  So it causes your rifle to jump.  Preloading definitely helps this but you still get the jump.  Using the pack it absorbs the recoil into the pack instead of bouncing the gun back up.

So I thought what the heck, I had my pack all setup to do it anyway, so I gave it a go for the 4 days at the class.  It definitely reduced the hop.  I was easily able to see the impact of all my shots, my rifle barely came off target.  With the pack preloading is not necessary.  It also allows you to freely move your rifle around from side to side where the bipods limit that.

Not saying one is better than the other, but might be something you want to try before spending money on another bipod.  I can't decide which I like better, I have shot off a bipod for so long it will be hard for me to change.  But IMO I think the bag works a little better overall.

If you want to stick with the pod.  They have pod claws for the harris pods, they put big claws on the end of them.  Preloading is easy then, I have been using them for several years and really like them.    http://www.phoenixtactical.com/index.php?main_page=index&cPath=1

ST has some great points.  I think it is best to practice using all sorts of rests.

I have come to like the little Stoney Point Rapid Pivot bipods.  With their rubber yoke they are designed for loading, but still aren't a hard object on hard object.

Otherwise Atlas bipods also work well, in my experience.

I finally conquered the bipod hop...I had a Badger thruster installed on my rifle...When I was bore siting, I could watch the round fly through the target at 25 yards! And my rifle is a 300 WSM. I also like the Versa Pod, but no, it isn't rock steady...
If it is tourist season, why can't we shoot them?

I prefer the Atlas, but sometimes run a Harris on claw feet.

Atlas loads well and is very, very sturdy. Harris ain't bad, but doesn't feel as rock-solid as the Atlas.

No experience with the others.
